Anon's Personal VR MMD Video Collection

The following is an upload of my own personal VR MMD collection, maintained by myself. While I do pay for subs to various fantia accounts, its important to note that this is NOT meant to be an archive. I only save the stuff that I personally like and ignore everything else. However, if I currently have access to something and someone asks for it, I'll grab it for them and upload it if I can.

Remember, if a new VR video you like gets posted, ASK FOR IT IN THE THREAD. DO NOT ASSUME I WILL GRAB IT.

FAQ

How do I play these videos on a wireless headset such as Quest?

Because all methods of PCVR video playback on a Quest introduces compression (yes, even wired), the best way to play a video on these headsets is natively. Of course, we don't have room on our headset's hard drive for several terabytes of VR videos. The solution? Networking. There are two methods that can be used:

SMB

The simplest method, but not the most user friendly if you're computer illiterate. Basically, you will network your drive/folder containing your videos in your operating system, then access that drive/folder from your headset. How you share your drive/folder on your network depends on your operating system, so you'll have to consult google for that. Note that your local user account password protects your drive/folder from being accessed by other people on your network, but they can still see its name.

Once your drive/folder is shared to your network, you need to set it up in your VR video player. Heresphere is the only video player I'm aware of that supports SMB, and its also the only VR video player I recommend, so this guide will explain how to set it up on that player. You can grab the full version on the Quest app store (it costs money), or if you don't want to pay for it, grab the demo instead, as its completely fully featured and practically identical. You can also find it on the Quest app store, but you can also download it here to sideload it if you prefer: (Link). To connect to your networked drive/folder, you will need to enter your PC's name (as set in your operating system), your user account name (for your operating system), your password for that account, and the exact name of the drive/folder you're connecting to. Once you've successfully connected to it, bookmark it in Heresphere to save your login details.

XBVR

This is another option if you prefer its features or if you just can't get SMB to work for some reason. It requires more work to setup, yet is much easier and user-friendly.

Get XBVR here: https://github.com/xbapps/xbvr

I don't personally have experience using it, but the github page has a decent enough installation guide for you to follow. XBVR is compatible with both Heresphere and DeoVR.

How do I play these videos on a PCVR headset?

For PCVR, simply grab your VR video player of choice on Steam and watch it using that. Once again, Heresphere is the only VR player I can recommend, and it also has a free demo on Steam just like it does on the Quest app store. DeoVR is also popular because its free, but I don't recommend it. Avoid Skybox, its neither good nor free.

Do not use Steam/PCVR for Quest or other wireless headsets, use the above method instead.

How do I configure Heresphere?

Enter Advanced Video Settings. First adjust the IPD: if your headset lets you physcially adjust the IPD on it, do it that way and then set it to automatic in Heresphere. Otherwise, enter your IPD here. Second, Heresphere normally automatically adjusts the settings to match a VR video, but sometimes it might not (like with ミュー's videos). Under Format, select Projection. Use Equirectangular for 99% of 180 degree videos, and Equirectangular 360 for 360 degree videos. If the video is 3D but not 180 or 360 (like with AI converted videos), set it to Perspective and then adjust the Aspect Ratio as needed. Aspect Ratio should otherwise be left on automatic. For Stereo, the majority of videos are left/right, but a few are top/bottom. This is self-evident. One last thing, go into the Main Menu and then the settings to enable Directshow instead of Media Foundation, as it'll ensure better compatibility in cases where your GPU can't play something.

I'm having trouble playing certain videos, particularly the really high resolution ones!

Some notes about compatibility for certain headsets and GPUs:
- AMD GPUs cannot handle 6K+ VR videos, with the only exception being the 7000 series which can handle 8K AV1 and AV1 only.
- The Quest 2 cannot play 8K AV1
- The Quest 3 handles most formats fine, but both the Quest 2 and 3 will stutter hard when playing videos above 200000 kbps bitrate (these are thankfully very rare, but some retards like つらら have videos like this).

If you want to check what format a video is in, open it in mpv on your desktop and press shift+i. If necessary, you can re-encode videos when needed, ideally to H.265 format. If you're stuck on AMD or if you've having trouble in general, you might want to try enabling the Directshow backend on Heresphere for better compatibility. There's a chance your video might run better.

Is 8K really necessary? Look at how small the resolution on my headset is!

There are two main misconceptions about VR resolution that lead people to make this mistake.

First is the fact that 8K video is not actually 8K, it's 4K. VR resolution is measured per eye, so we only count either the left or right eye's image when talking about resolution. With VR videos, you'll notice they are one left and one right eye image stitched together. This means a VR video's true resolution is actually half of its combined resolution. So if you download an 8K video, the left and right images are actually only 4K. Meaning what you're seeing on your headset is essentially a 4K image. This also means a 6K video is actually a 1440p video, and a 4K video is actually a 1080p video. This is why 4K VR usually doesn't look that great. It's also why VR videos below 4K are usually so shitty as to be unwatchable.

You might now be saying, well my headset doesn't have 4K resolution per eye, so shouldn't 6K be fine? Not necessarily. The other part people misunderstand is FOV, or field of view. Consider that the entire viewable space of one of your VR lenses corresponds to your VR headset's display resolution. Now consider this: a 180 degree VR video is stretched out along half of a half-globe. You can't actually see the entire video in your lenses without moving your head. Compare it to watching a video on a flat monitor, where a 4K video perfectly fits onto a 4K monitor and the entire video is visible. Your headset's FOV will be much lower than 180, and thus only that portion of what you see is your headset's resolution. Because of this stretching done for VR videos, we want to target a video resolution higher than what we need to compensate. That said, if you have an older headset with a noticeably lower resolution, you'll probably be okay with 6K.

A video from a creator you posted is missing from your collection!

Its probably because I didn't want it. If someone releases a VR video you like, ALWAYS ASK FOR IT IN THE THREAD. That way, assuming I'm subbed to the person at the time and its available to me, I'll know to grab it for you and add it even if its a video I don't personally want.
