The Moon's Watch guild hall was almost empty. Father Mond was out following a lead, Ciara had retreated to her gardens for the day, Yam had left on a mission to find a certain mercenary, Sid had vanished leaving only a note that claimed that he was "dealing with the devil god of ancient destruction" and Curie was working on something in her lab as usual. Seeing this Meliadne sighed.

"It would be good if we recruited more members." But then, her eyes landed on the only other person in the hall. "Hello mister Nol."
The tall figure draped in a dark cape turned to face her. "Hello to you too miss Meliadne. How do you fare today?"
"I am good, thank you. Although it saddens me a bit seeing the guild nearly empty. What are you working on?" The girl was pointing towards small statues that the man had in his hands.
"This? Well I came to the guild hall hoping to socialise a bit but seeing as there's no one else here, I decided to work on my magic a bit."
"It is a good thing that you are so dilligent. The guild will greatly benefit from your presence."
"I...Thank you miss Meliadne." While Nol's appearance generally made it hard to read his emotions, it was obvious that he was a bit embarassed by the girl's earnest compliment.
"If you wished to socialise, perhaps I could ask for your help? I have to step out on an errand for a bit but those kinds of things are always less boring with company."

Nol stayed silent for a bit. Then with a sorrowful look he said:
"I thank you for your offer miss Meliadne but I fear that my appearance would just complicate your work far more than necessary."
"Are you sure? I would really be glad if you came along."
"Indeed I am. I do wish you good luck however."
"Very well then, I'll see you later mister Nol."

The "errand" Meliadne had to fulfill was in fact just a series of boring tasks. Placing an order of ingredients for the guild's kitchen, checking in with the guild's informants, the kind of menial work anyone could do but not many wanted to bother with. Still, Meliadne took pride in seeing this job done well.
"All that's left now is swinging by the botanist for miss Perrons and.."
But Meliadne attention was distracted by the sound of nearby fighting. Rushing to the nearby alley she identified as being the source of the noises, she found a group of 5 mages wailing on a young teenager.
"That's what you get for stealing from us you worthless bum!"
"We'll make an example out of you!"
"That's enough! If you keep going you're gonna kill him!"
One member of the group turned to face her. "That's the point you idiot."
"I don't know what he has done to deserve this but surely he's paid for it by now. Let him go!"

Now all 5 members of the band had stopped beating the youth. All their eyes were now fixated on Meliadne.
"See this is exactly why we need to make an example out of that guy. No one should have the balls to dare interrupt our buisness. But congrats kid, you've earned the right to share his fate."
Meliadne was in a bit of a pickle. If she fled to alert the autorities, by the time they'd arrive the group would vanish taking along their victim. Trying to save the battered teenager would require her to fly fast enough to weave between her opponents and grab him in quick succession. While this wouldn't be the easiest maneuver to pull off, it was the only way she could succeed.

But before she could start flying, the gazes of the group turned to something behind her and their faces started to twist with terror. Immediately they fled in the opposite direction, leaving behind their victim. Meliadne smiled in relief.
"Well thank y-"
But when she turned, there was nothing there.

By the time Meliadne found her way back home, the night was beginning to fall. Having kept his word, Lanel was still in the guild hall but this time he was engaged in a discussion with Curie.
"And what about a mechanical body?"
"No, I don't think so, I wanna keep that one. It may be hard to believe now but I used to be quite handsome."
"Who cares? I could make you one so beautiful that people would kneel when you walked by!"
"I said..." Noticing Meliadne, Lanel stopped and waved at her. "Welcome back Miss Meliadne. Everything went smoothly I trust?"
"Indeed" The girl then looked for something in her bag before placing a flower in front of Lanel. "Thank you for the save earlier mister Nol"
"I don't see what you ar-" but seeing that Meliadne wasn't fooled, a smile appeared on what remained on the man's lips before taking the flower.
"You are very welcome miss Meliadne."
