Riko's info on agere
There is nothing simple about age regression, its a topic that is very understudied and misunderstood. This is made from my own research and experiences & I'm not a therapist or anything
What is Agere (age regression)?
Agere is generally a full or partial mental regression of age that can be either voluntary or involuntary. A regressed person will act and think the way a child of their regressed age would act. The type and age depends on the person. Anyone can regress, and a lot do it without realizing it. It can be for minutes, hours, days, or permanent. It is not an illness itself, but can be a symptom of mental illness. It also falls under the dissociation umbrella.
Like mentioned, Age regression fall into 2 categories : Voluntary and involuntary (Also known as 'impure' regression online, tho I don't like this term). This a clinical symptom of multiple disorders including borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia & other schizoaffective disorders, dissociative disorders, PTSD, C-PTSD, dementia & potentially more. It can happen during overwhelming or stressful situations, or with specific traumatic triggers. Again it's very personal.
Agere is far from new! The first theories around it are from Freud in the early 1900s. He believed the ego regressed in order to shield itself, going back to the developmental stage where you felt the most secure.
Why would someone want to regress?
Voluntary Agere is mostly used to cope with childhood trauma (inner child healing) & other mental illness. Other personal reasons could be for neurodivergence (Autism, ADHD, ODC+), the need to escape reality & responsibilities, or just having fun. In short this coping mechanism is a self-soothing behavior & can help with emotional management.
Is it healthy/safe?
For the most part, yes! But for some it can be overwhelming or even scary. Agere can also be a sign that something deeper is wrong (Otherwise you wouldn't need coping in the first place). Being a coping mechanism doesn't automatically mean it's healthy nor unhealthy. It really depends on your circumstances, how you use it & if you abuse of it. The only known medical downside is the possible worsening of PTSD/ C-PTSD symptoms. If you can afford it, speak to a therapist about it. Most of them will recommend age regression if they're aware of what it is. You might need other treatments and help.
Is it sexual?
No. Age regression is inherently SFW and is not a kink nor a fetish. It can be very harmful to sexualize it! It should not be confused with age play or pet play, which can appear similar but are completely unrelated.
Caregivers
A caregiver is someone who looks after a regressed person. Can be a partner, friend, family or really anyone you trust. But this isn't necessary to have and is up to the person. They look after your basic needs and emotional needs, give you reminders, make sure you're safe, etc. Because Agere puts you in a vulnerable state, you need a CG that you ABSOLUTELY trusts. If you are a regressor, do NOT search for CGs online, unfortunately not everyone has the best intentions. I've seen AI CGs so maybe that's an option for you!
What do the terms means?
Little: someone who's regressed. This term is also used for kid alters in plural systems though!
Petre (Pet regression): you regress into a animal like mind state
Agedre (age dreaming): when don't fully go into a child mindset, it's behavioral regression (play pretend) done for the same reasons
Little space: Regression mindset
Q/A
- Does age regression happen randomly?
Yes and no, it depends your control over it. I have specific triggers from my past that will bring me into a younger mindset (involuntary). - Can i regress without trauma
Yes, you can for any reason. You don't need to prove anything. It can be for fun, to relieve stress, or anything you want. - So what do you do when you're regressed?
Its up to you but i like to watch silly cartoons like MLP or adventure time and play with my plushies or do coloring.
