Xun Moyu

Do not blame the Scorpion, for it is in his nature to sting.

"I am the Strongest of the Xun Family! The Smartest! And, of course, the Cutest! Kowtow 10 times while praising my name, and I may forget this transgression!"

One of the scions of the central family, Moyu is one of the precious jades of the Xun Clan - with the potential to one day take over as a Matriarch, or at the very least act as an Elder. As a result, she is arguably one of the most influential and important people in the entire Northern Territory.

Unfortunately, she was coddled far too much by her parents, resulting in a truly spoiled and petulant child.

She consumes large sums of cultivation pills and reagents with reckless abandon, burns talismans and wastes treasures for the most frivolous reasons, and spends spirit stones like they're hot coals in her hands. Moyu is fairly lackadaisical with her Cultivation, only doing it for 8 hours a day and rarely engaging in closed door cultivation. Her abundance of free time is either spend prowling the Dark Demon Mountains for Spirit and Demonic Beasts, shopping in the nearest cities markets or commissioning outfits from merchants within the Xun compound, or engaging in mindless entertainment like gambling or drinking.

Xun Moyu spends most of her time outside the Clan's compound traveling across the Dark Demon Mountains, and is one of the main reasons why so few Demonic Beasts exist within Xun territory despite being so close to the mountains. She either tames the beasts she encounters if they are sufficiently strong, or feeds them to her three main beasts. Her latest acquisition, Chenmo, was the only Demonic Beast in 5 generations to reach the front gate of the Xun Family's Main Compound, though was quickly noticed and captured by Moyu as she returned from her latest expedition.

Moyu's service in culling the Demonic Beasts and any potential Beast Waves is (along with her status and her parent's favor) the only reason she is allowed to be so frivalous with her Cultivation and responsibilities as a Great Clan Member.

Personality:

A shitty brat that is in desperate need of correction. Moyu fits firmly into the stereotype of a 'Young Master' - haughty, arrogant, and incredibly ignorant to anything that occurs out of her very narrow frame of reference. She holds herself on an impossible pedestal, and demeans those around her as worthless insects by comparison. If she presented with a choice, she will almost always choose the option that is the most selfish and grandiose. Her hobbies include caring for her Demon Beasts, shopping, and makeovers (giving and receiving).

If one plays into her ego, she can actually prove to be quite useful and benevolent. Merchants who give her minor tributes of perfumes and oils while paying some words of praise are allowed to travel through her domain freely, and may even be assigned guards for their protection. She will boast about the accomplishments of allies and her family as if they were her own, often exaggerating her involvement and/or various details that make the accomplishment more impressive. Even commoners can earn her favor if they are particularly shameless with their praise, though this rarely extends beyond purchasing whatever good they're selling or offering to assist with their mundane issues. She'll even show sincere respect to her Elders and older peers, though she expects her younger siblings and cousins to show face and compliment her like everyone else.

Moyu is very naive due to her sheltered upbringing and low intelligence, so tricking her is almost comically easy. Just throw a few compliments her way, mention how she must obviously know [x], and she'll lie and believe almost anything you say so long as it's outside her expertise. Cousins and other relatives have often used this facet of Moyu's personality to pawn off chores or other undesirable tasks, framing it as the duty of an honorable elder sibling or complaining that they are so incompetent at they couldn't possibly do as good a job as Moyu could.

Should one stand up to Moyu or deny her, she will grow furious and demand obedience - threatening extreme bodily harm if refused. She is not afraid to back up her words, often getting into fights over laughable reasons, and killing lesser Cultivators that refuse to submit to her. If one can kill her Demon Beasts and actually defeat her, Moyu will surprisingly be very meek and cowardly, clearly terrified of stronger cultivators that could kill her. She will comply with most of their orders in a dejected and submissive fashion, until she has an opportunity to escape or her demon beasts recover, in which case she will immediately circle back into her Young Master mentality (though still have lingering fear/resentment of those that defeated her).

"You dare sit in my favorite seat!?"
(Note: She's never been in this teahouse before.)
"Kowtow 20 times and I MIGHT leave your Dantian intact!"

Origin

Great Clan Member
One of, if not THE, strongest Clan in the Northern Territory. Few do not know the name of Xun, and even the branch members are of exceptional pedigree - let alone the main Clan. Moyu is one of the favored granddaughters of the Family Patriarch, making her close to royalty in status. Few willingly approach Moyu, even amongst their family and staff, due to her volatile temper and personality - as a result, she has few real friends, and she typically only has positive interactions with a select few family members and her Beasts.

“Your life is worth less than the pills I use to cultivate, and it shall be forgotten just as swiftly!”

Foundation:

Royal Lion Spirit (Mystic Beast Spirit Foundation)
Often regarded as the King of Beasts, the Royal Lion Spirit Foundation is a widely respected Foundation amongst Warriors and Tamers alike. It is a very balanced Foundation with no major weak points, but only excels in techniques that rely on conquering and dominating others. This most often is seen in strength boosting Bodily Refinement Techniques. Boosts the strength of the user significantly, though considering Moyu's fighting style, this is of little real use.

A side benefit is granting enhanced night vision and balance. The former, along with Moyu's naturally high Perception, gives her near-perfect vision in even total darkness.

"ROWR!!! That's my roar, Mortals! If you wish to hear such a beautiful sound again, you'll need to sing three more songs in my honor, at least!"

Talents:

S: 3 I: 1 B: 4 P: 5

"You dare!? You're courting death!!! I shall feed you to my Mohen for this transgression!!! I have a 5 in all of my Talents, at the very least!"
"... My Intelligence is surely higher than a one..."

Perks:

Attractive 3
A jade-like beauty with few equals, Moyu is just as prideful and arrogant about her appearance as any other aspect of herself. She spends a large amount of her free time picking outfits that she thinks would look good on her, and her wardrobe is one of the largest in the Xun Family. She is quite fond of her Uncle Heinrich and Aunt Wen despite being a foreign commoner and branch member respectively, almost entirely because they are talented in the ways of Physicians and Alchemy and can provide exotic beauty treatments.

"Beautiful? Fufufu~! That's right!!! I, Xun Moyu, am the cutest in the world!!! You have eyes that fail to recognize Mt. Tai, but at least you can recognize a cute girl when you see one~! Ah, just be careful not to turn into a toad lusting for swan meat, okay~?"

Tamer 2
An absurd degree of talent when it comes to taming and training animals. Even Demonic Beasts are not safe from submitting to Moyu's steady hands. As a matter of fact, one of the reasons her behavior is tolerated within the Xun family (other than, y'know, being a Young Master) is the fact that she keeps almost all threats from the Dark Demon Mountains at bay - almost singlehandedly. Thanks to her advantage over animals, she has a very warped idea of what creatures are 'cute' and 'safe'.

"Eh? You think Mohen is scary? Pffffhahaha!!! He's just a kitten and you're scared of him? Wahahaha, you wuss~!"

Natural Insight (Beast)
An obscene Insight into the nature of all manner of animals, both mundane and supernatural. In addition to allowing for communication, Moyu can identify any animal on sight or by examining their tracks/markings, predict their every action with ease, and identify the best way to repel or harm them instantly. Even Demonic Beasts will refrain from attacking Moyu immediately, as Moyu has an almost insurmountable advantage over all beasts. The only creatures that could defeat her would either have to hard counter her Shadowed Menagerie, or would be so strong that only the mightiest of Cultivators would be capable of defeating them. In combination with Tamer 2, Moyu is easily one of, if not THE, best Tamer in the world.

"...Look into their eyes. See their fear, their hatred, their will to survive. Mortals are disgusting, Cultivators are hypocrites - only the Beast is True and Honest to their nature."

Techniques:

Shadowed Menagerie of Diyu - Inner Technique (Heaven-Rank Technique)
Cultivation
One of the most infamous and feared cultivation techniques from the Ghost Domain, Shadowed Menagerie of Diyu was practiced extensively by at least one ancient Devilgod, utilizing it as a forsaken pseudo-afterlife where he could torture the souls of cultivators that dared to oppose him. It has survived to this day mostly in patchworked and incomplete forms - Moyu only has two fragments of the complete technique.

As a Cultivation technique, the Shadowed Menagerie is at first glance completely useless, barely superior to a Common-rank. Through the use of a short ritual, a weakened opponent may be trapped inside an inner realm of the user, accessed through their shadow. Inside this infinite space of darkness, the Cultivator has effectively total control over the target - able to decide if they are conscious and can communicate, asleep, granted access to her senses, tortured, etc. The more Demonic and Spirit beasts a user has 'stored' (and the stronger they are), the faster their cultivation speed. With Moyu's current Menagerie its roughly comparable to a typical Earth Grade, but she has hit the point of significant diminishing returns and will need many more beasts to be comparable to other Heaven-Techniques.

Trapping an enemy Cultivator in this inner realm is certainly possible and is one of the reasons this technique is feared. Thankfully, Moyu is either not evil enough to use this aspect of the technique, or (more likely) realizes that breaking Beasts with her Insight and skill as a Tamer is more convenient.

The only downsides of this technique is that it is extremely Yin-aligned, making Yang techniques impossible to use for the practitioner. This also makes it dangerous for male users to practice unless they have sufficiently strong bodies. It can't be used in areas that are too bright, as it requires the user's shadow.

"I banish you to the realm of infinite darkness. May your soul serve in the Shadowed Menagerie of Diyu."

Shadowed Menagerie of Diyu - Outer Technique (Heaven Rank Technique)
Combat/Utility
The most infamous ability of the Shadowed Menagerie, the Outer Technique involves bringing forth the creatures that have been captured via the Inner Technique, forcing them to fight on behalf of the Cultivator. These creatures will sprout from Moyu's shadow and any shadow connected to it, looking like solid masses of ink but retaining all the power and intelligence they had in life. Qi must be devoted both to maintain control over the beasts as well as to summon them, with stronger creatures requiring a higher expenditure of Qi. This puts a limit on the total number that may be summoned at any time, but in brief battles, summoning a small battalion of creatures is not out of the realm of possibility.

If a beast dies outside of the Shadowed Menagerie, they may be reformed eventually - but this takes time and a great deal of Qi, slowing or even halting Cultivation for a few days.

Taming the beasts within is not required to use them with the Outer Technique, but makes the technique much more efficient as Qi no longer needs to be devoted for dominating the creatures, only for summoning them. Taming is also much easier when you have them in a perfect prison with all the positive and negative reinforcement you could ever want.

"W-woah, wait a minute! Y-you have to let me summon first, it's no fair otherwise! Come to me, my Shadowed Menagerie! Mohen, Sanmo, Chenmo!"

Shadowed Menagerie of Diyu - Moyu's Divine Treasury!!! (Earth Rank Technique)
Combat/Utility
A 'technique' that was '''invented''' by Moyu. A disgusting application of such a powerful and ancient technique, Moyu has chosen to use the Shadowed Menagerie as a glorified storage ring. By enveloping an object in her shadow, Moyu can store it within her inner realm much in the same way she would store a beast. She may then release it from her shadow at any later point, either harmlessly dropping from it or launching the item at high speeds as a weapon.

The most intelligent application of this is use in combat as a defensive aid - with proper timing and positioning of her shadow, projectiles and energy attacks may be absorbed into Moyu's shadow, rendering them useless. She can then release them at high speeds, flinging them back at an enemy. This is worthless against melee attacks as weapons cannot be absorbed so long as they are held, and any attack that generates sufficient light to banish her shadows (such as high level Yang or Lightning techniques) will be impossible to absorb properly.

More often than not, Moyu just uses it as a range attack while her beasts fight for her, slinging blades in large swarms at an enemy while haughtily laughing.

"WAHAHAHA!!! Look upon your impotence and weep like a baby! I, the great Xun Moyu, cannot be pierced by mere throwing needles! Kotow 50 times and I might show your family face by leaving your corpse intact- w-wait, PLEASE DON'T USE A FIREBALL AHHHHHH!!! CHENMO PUT IT OUT, SAVE ME!!!"

One Hundred Shadow Steps (Earth Rank Technique)
Movement
A basic teleportation-type movement technique, only at the Earth Rank due to its ability to bypass many barriers and formations. While in shadows, the user is capable of teleporting to any other shadow within several dozen meters instantly. At night, a user of this technique is practically untouchable, constantly flittering about the battlefield.

The One Hundred Shadow Steps can theoretically be used at any range, but requires a charge time proportional to the distance traveled - attempting to jump to shadows hundreds of miles away would require an hour within the shadows to charge, making it of little use for long distance travel.

"Hm? Yes, it's a sufficient technique, nothing of serious note. I much prefer catching attacks with my Divine Treasury, it's so much more dynamic! But this is useful for things like bypassing barriers or tactical retreats, I suppose."

Shadow Aura Concealment (Common Rank Technique)
Utility
A Stealth technique that is often regarded as an Assassin's technique. It seals the User's Qi within their own dantian, making it difficult to detect with spiritual senses. In addition, it wraps one in shadows and allows them to conceal themselves much more effectively. In conjunction with her One Hundred Shadow Steps, Moyu is surprisingly competent as a spy and assassin... at least, she would be if not for her loud mouth.

"Fufufu~! The fools! These cultists believe that they can launch an attack on the Xun Family compound without alerting I, Xun Moyu? WAHAHA- Eh? W-why are they looking over here!?"

Sword Control Technique (Common Rank Technique)
Combat/Utility
One of the most common techniques in the Four Territories. While using it with a single blade allows incredible feats like wielding multiple blades at once or flying atop one's own sword, Moyu uses it at a far greater level. Combining it with her Divine Treasury and the Thousand Man Arming Sword allows her to perfectly aim the hundreds of blades she fires at high speeds, as well as make them 'chase' an opponent.

"Hm? You're impressed with how many blades I can control at once? Hahaha, mortals are so easily impressed! Even 1000 swords would be nothing before the mighty Xun Moyu!!! Tell you what, if you can balance on this flying sword for 100 breaths, I shall teach you this technique! Imagine how jealous the other mortals would be that you have such a cute Shifu~!"

Treasures:

Censer of Shade (Earth-Rank Treasure)
A small incense burner that dangles from a chain, either held by the user or hung on a hook nearby. The cloud of incense that is released as it burns are pitch black and obscuring, like smoke - obscuring the area surrounding the censer. This smoky cloud grows larger the longer the Censer is allowed to burn, but can only burn for a dozen minutes before it must be refilled with incense. Strong winds (either from wind techniques or from obscenely strong strikes) can blow away the smoke, rendering the Treasure effectively useless.

"A gift from Father. I understand the tactical value of such a tool, but it is quite cumbersome - I usually leave it to Mohen or Sanmo rather than holding it myself in battle. I enjoy the smell of incense it brings greatly~!"

The Thousand Man Arming Sword (Earth-Rank Treasure)
A simple sword, with little in the way of adornment or engraving. It's not even a flying sword, its a basic Jian you would see in the hands of a Soldier. Despite this, Moyu holds the blade quite dearly, like a child might hold a favored toy. The Thousand Man Arming Sword is capable of splitting into a thousand copies, each a low grade earth-rank treasure in terms of durability and sharpness. The copies last for 1000 breaths after being created, after which they fall apart and turn to dust. Moyu uses these in conjunction with her Divine Treasury Technique to overwhelm foes with a swarm of flying blades.

"A gift from Heinrich-shushu! A most suitable weapon for one as beautiful and powerful as I! If you plead and beg with your forehead touching the ground, I may be convinced to let you hold it for a minute~!"

Spirit/Demonic Beasts:

Mohen A mewling kitten, desperate for affection. Just as I was. An Infernal Shadow-Tiger that was the first Demonic Beast to fall under Moyu's control. Feared as apex predators in the Dark Demon Mountains, the Infernal Shadow-Tiger is infamous for their bone rattling roar that can kill mortals and lesser cultivators who hear it. Mohen is an intelligent and prideful creature, not dissimilar to his master - though he is fully submissive and compliant to her every order. Mohen is her main combat summon, using his incredible strength to combat enemies and his Creeping Shadow Claws to expand the shadows for Moyu's techniques.

Can be summoned in a smaller weakened form, around the size of a house cat, at basically no cost of Qi.

Roar of Oblivion
Creeping Shadow Claws

"You dare look down on me, Humans? My Master is in the other room - I can surely rip your flesh from the bone before she returns. What will I savor more - your succulent meat, or the screams as you bleed out on the floo-"
"Moooooohennn~! I'm making your dinner! Does the good boy want Salmon, or Chicken?"
"Salmon!!! I love fish, Master! P-please give me the leftover Salmon, please!!!"

Sanmo A starving crow, desperate for care. Just as I am. A Splitting Toothed Crow, a giant flying Demonic Beast that is infamous for its nocturnal hunting strategy of splitting into a massive swarm of smaller birds that tear apart prey with hundreds of small, razor-toothed beaks. Sanmo is an unintelligent beast, communicating almost exclusively in squawks and howling cries that only Moyu seems able to understand. She is very simple, favoring anyone that offers her plenty of flesh and bone to consume. Can serve as a capable mount for up to 4 riders and boasts excellent handling and speed, though she is incapable of splitting while supporting a rider.

Like Mohen, a single crow of Sanmo can be summoned at almost no cost, often used to scout an area.

Infinite Army of Feathers
Speedy Swift's Flight

"My Sanmo is a bit of a picky eater - she loves thieves, but refuses to eat murderers unless I salt the corpses enough. Ah, tell me, what do you plan on doing with his hands after you chop them off?"
"SQUAWK!" A grotesque tongue lops out of the crow's mouth, licking sharp teeth that glint in the low-light.

Chenmo A lying mollusc, desperate for freedom. Just as I will be. An Abyssal Assassin Octopus is one of the few aquatic Demonic Beasts that can survive on land for any meaningful length of time, being able to survive days at a time before needing to return to water (or in Chenmo's case, the Shadowed Menagerie). Their mimicry is unparalleled, capable of assuming nearly any shape and even masking and displaying false Qi signatures that require perceptive techniques to see through. They often act as assassins, being intelligent enough to identify weak points in hierarchies and organizations. Chenmo is conniving and wily, being the most recent beast in Moyu's collection and the least loyal. He is of little use in a direct fight, but with Mohen and Sanmo taking most of enemies attention, he can land powerful sneak attacks and inflict a variety of debilitating venoms onto foes. He is also intelligent and skilled enough to use complex items like Talismans.

Can be summoned while disguised as small objects at, you guessed it, almost no cost. Moyu often has Chenmo on her person, either as an inkpen or a hair piece.

"sigh ...Yes, Master."
