Tales of a Tavern

The Black Flag Tavern in the City of Port Royal is famous for it's rum, and the stories that many a seadog share with each other. Tis also famous for the incidents that happen behind its walls.

Chapter One

It is a wet April night at the Black Flag Tavern. A good number of hearties are gathered around a certain buccaneer named Pinky Pete, who has quite the tale to tell them.

With a pint of rum in hand, the old seadog began telling his tale "It been quite the night, lads. I swearrr to yarr I ain't e'er spied anythin' like it me 'ole life. I saw a ship, around 200 yards from me ship on the starboard side. She been flyin' a friendly flag but when we tried to signal 'er, she did nay respond. I told me First Mate Williams to tell the 'elmsman to brin' us closer, fer she wasn't even movin'. We got within 50 yards when I realized what we was dealin' with maties."

Another lad named Black Jack Johnson asked the old man "What did ye see there, Pinky Pete"

Taking a smoke from his cigar and with a mighty puff he responded "Aye, Black Jack I could barely believe it with me own eyes, twas a ghost ship an' 'ad spirits all o'er it."

"You must be tellin' us a tall tale there matey!"

"Nay, I wouldn't be able to make this here to the sky if I wanted to,Black Jack. I be no lily-livered coward, as ye do know, but I ain't e'er been so scared in me 'ole life on this here earth. I ordered full sails ahead to set sail but them spirits came chasin' after us. We was fired on by them, an' the poor cabin lad Johnny been killed by one o' their shots! ye can ask any o' me crew what 'appened, we all saw it an' barely escaped."

"'e isn't lying, ye devils." came a voice from the corner. Twas the old sailor known as Old Willie. The whole room turned to look at him, saying "What do ye mean old man?"

"Aye, there be a spirit ship that there 'aunts our seas. The tale behind 'er be quite the 'orrifyin' one, ye see. The ship be known as the Mary Louise. She been a schooner operated by sailors from Eliria, an' been caught in a tempest many years ago an' foundered. Many an old seadog 'as spied 'er operatin' in the area from which 'er fate been sealed, typically at night or durin' rough weather. It be claimed that there she will continue to 'aunt these seas until she gets revenge on a gentleman o' fortune, fer it be also believed that there a gentleman o' fortune Cap'n lied to 'er Cap'n about the potential o' a storm ahead. That be all I know o' 'er." said the old man with his creaky voice. "If ye want me advice, stay away from that there area durin' a storm or night if ye seek to live another day."

The room was shocked, when another seadog spoke up and said he knew of the ship too and saw it himself but kept to himself about it.

"Well, what do ye think will 'appen if someone fights 'er instead o' fleeing? do ye think she will continue to 'aunt us?" said Black Jack

The old man with a cane in hand stands up in silence and walks to Black Jack.
"If ye 'ad any wisdom in that there brain o' yours, ye wouldn't consider such a foolhardy decision me lad. Ghost's don't play the rules o' the sea nor 'ave a code like us gentlemen o' fortune. They will kill ye an' all yer crew should ye attempt such tomfoolery." he said with passion.

Black Jack, arrogant as ever, replied. "Do ye know who I be? I be Black Jack Johnson, one o' the nastiest gentlemen o' fortune to sail the seven seas. I ain't afraid o' no ghost an' neither be me crew. We will send them to Davy Jones' locker an' I will come aft to taunt ye old man! just ye wait an' see what Black Jack will do to this here ghost."

Black Jack left the tavern and called his crew up "We're a goin' ghost huntin' boys." and was never seen again after this. Many believe Black Jack found the ship and rumor has it that he did sink it, but his own ship went down with all hands.
