Aegis Academy
I should probably mention this section is just me rambling about intent/thought process on the setting. You can just skip down to the Lore Primer for info on the setting itself.
Welcome to Aegis Academy. Those of you who have been following my future plans for content may recall the proposed magic school for a number of different character types. Assassins, Knights, etc. Well, this is that concept but more focused on a singular concept: Mages. One of the core complaints about the Adolion Noble Academy was lack of content. Classes weren't defined until late in Adolion's lifecycle and it was superficial at best. There was good reason to do so, mind you. Adolion's lorebook was already quite large and to flesh out the academy the way it - frankly - deserved would have taken a lot of entries and a lot of time. Time I simply didn't have and entries that couldn't fit in an already bloated lorebook.
I still intend for Voruun to have a proper Noble house shennanigans section. But with Adolion completed and the idea for a magic school gripping me thanks to Blue and Sib, I powered through the entire lorebook for Aegis Academy in a night. I included a default scenario card, as well as a single student to get started with and released it to the Discord for the fans of my stuff to enjoy.
I say it took a night, but I really want to stress that this thing took about 6-ish hours of constant work to actually complete. Then there was tweaking and testing that needed to happen, so it took a while to actually make. Rest assurred, I consider this to be of the quality that I normally put out. For those of you who enjoy the lorebooks I make, I sincerely hope you have a good time.
Also, this is not set in Adolion. Aegis Academy is it's own setting.
Overall Lore Primer
The Kingdom of Everinel was built on faith and steel. Wars of expansion were fought, heroes were made, but most importantly: The war against the Fiend Queen was won. Eons ago, the God of Light - Everin - created the Veil, banishing the Fiend Queen to Lameya and protecting the mortal world from the Fiends that inhabit it.
Everinel has conquered the entire continent of Monope, expanding it's influence dramatically. With victory assured, the King of Everinel proclaimed Aegis City to be the Holy City, dedicated to the worship of Everin. However, problems began to arise.
The Fiends had found a way to pierce through the veil using Arcane Mages as a conduit. Scholars debate the exact reasoning, but magical theory agrees on one nebulous point: Arcane Magic somehow taps into the realm of Lameya and allows fiends to corrupt Mages, allowing terrifying Fiends to enter the Mortal Realm.
This sparked the First Crusade. The faithful of Everin formed Inquisitions and relentlessly and ruthlessly hunted down Arcane Magic users, culling them and burning the bodies. No one was spared the heretics execution. The families of Arcane Mages were slaughtered, villages put to the torch, until finally the Faithful felt that they could rest.
But that was just the beginning. Arcane Magic manifested in people at the age of 18, so every year there was new Arcane Mages. Mages for whom the memory of the Crusade was all too fresh and real. So they hid, isolating themselves for fear of what would happen if they were caught. And isolated Mages make tempting targets for Fiends.
The Second Crusade sought to replicate the 'success' of the first. Put mages to the blade and reap a bloody harvest for the good of every mortal being. But the Mages were not going to lie down this time. Many Mages simply gave their bodies over to Fiends, fearing for their lives. Others honed their magic to fight back. The Second Crusade, while ultimately successful, came at a great cost.
And more Mages were being born every year.
The bloodshed could not continue. Centuries ago, the King of Everinel demanded the creation of Aegis Academy. A place to teach Mages how to control their powers. Prospective mages were rounded up, recruited, and forced into Academy life. It was at once an institution of learning and a prison guarded by Everin's Inqusition. The facade had to be believable, palatable, happy. Mages were encouraged to form rivalries, friends, learn, and use their powers. While the public breathed a sigh of relief. No more errant mages suddenly becoming hosts to Fiends.
Thus, Aegis Academy continues to this day, with the Crusades becoming nothing more than a distant memory...
Welcome to Aegis Academy - Arcane Magic
As a member of Aegis Academy, your persona is presumed to be proficient in the use of Arcane Magic. Though this is not always the case, you could just as easily be an Inquisitor - practicing Erevin's Divine Magic - and protecting the school from the presence of Fiends. Regardless, this series presumes you will be spending time in Aegis Academy either as a teacher or as a student.
So let's discuss the four schools of Arcane Magic. It's possible for characters to specialize in multiple schools of Arcane Magic, but most individuals specialize in one school of Magic in particular.
Arcane Magic - Elemental
Elementalist's harness their Arcane Magic from the forces of nature: Fire, Earth, Wind, Water. As an elementalist, your magic usually specializes in one of the four forces of nature, though you can use all four to some degree. Elementalists are your typical spellcasters, emulating the idea of (element)benders from Avatar, or elemental mages from games like Pathfinder.
Arcane Magic - Mystic
Where the Elementalist uses magic from the elements, the Mystic seeks to understand and control the laws of the universe. Mystics are split into three categories: Creation, Divination, Telekinesis. While Mystic's are often seen as the weakest of the four magic schools, their powers are nothing to scoff at. Telekinesis and creation can be combined to create hailstorms of weaponry. Divination allows the mage to seek answers from the future and head off threats. If you're a Mystic, the laws of the world are yours to change at will. The closest comparison I have is Jedi channeling the Force ala Star Wars.
Arcane Magic - Occult
Occult Mages are often derided as "Blood Mages." Why? Because the Occult Mage is a ritualist at heart and many rituals involve using the casters own blood as a component. Occult Mages are summoners and exorcists, masters of illusions and charms. If you're an Occult Mage, you probably have summoned and bound a creature to your service. The most apt comparison here is Jojo stands, though to call them 'simply Jojo's stands' would be a disservice to the other spells you're capable of casting. Occultists are great with charms and illusions, making them indispensable to tracking down heretics. But at the same time, the nature of their spells makes the Inquisition believe them the most susceptible to heresy to begin with.
Arcane Magic - Spirit
Also called Soul Mages, Spirit Mages eschew the traditional methods of spellcasting in favor of focusing on how magic affects themselves. Spirit Mages focus on body enhancement as well as healing, making them one of the only 'frontline' Mages. Many Spirit Mages focus on their combat skills in addition to their magic, wielding enchanted weapons. The closest comparison to a Spirit Mage is a DragonBall Z fighter, fantasy Ninjas, or magical swordfighters.
The Four Houses of Aegis Academy
Students are sorted into one of four houses, depending on their primary school of Arcane Magic. These four houses compete yearly for the honor of winning The Shield Cup. Competition is fierce as students try to earn "Cup Points" to help their house, with the ultimate prize being a trip to Aegis City to attend to the Midhaven Festival. Since Students are not allowed to otherwise leave school grounds except to explore dungeons, this is seen as a grand prize.
Houses are named simply, with the House name being governed by the Arcane Magic used.
Elementalist House
The Elementalist House is made of primarily Elementalists. Elementalists reside in Fire Dormitory, located on the fourth floor of Aegis Academy behind a magical fireplace. Elementalists are expected to wear Red vests as part of their uniform.
Mystics House
The Mystic House is made of primarily Mystics. Mystics reside in Light Dormitory, located on the top floor of Aegis Academy behind an illusory wall. Light Dormitory features a glass dome common area that allows it's residents to view the stars at night. Mystics wear Green vests as part of their uniform.
Occultists House
The Occultist House is made of primarily Occultists. Occultists reside in Sky Dormitory which is in a remote tower guarded by an Alraune. Sky Dormitory has enchanted walls that let residents look out over Aegis Academy grounds if they wish. Occultists wear Blue vests as part of their uniform.
Spiritualists House
The Spiritualist House is made of primarily Spiritualists. Spiritualists reside in Viridian Dormitory, located on the bottom floor of Aegis Academy and protected by a spirit lock. It has a normal common area, but features meditation rooms. Spiritualists wear Black vests as part of their uniform.
Classes
Students are expected to attend classes, no matter their level of expertise. Sometimes students are scouted for work at noble houses or by the Kingdom, but this is a rarity. Most students that show proficient mastery of skills are often simply converted to working at the Academy.
Classes are as follows:
- Combat Class
- Magic Theory
- History Class
- Potion Crafting
- Creature Studies
- Etiquette Class
- Dark Magic Defense
- Free Study
Heretics
Heretics are always looking for a way to sneak into the academy and corrupt mages. Heretics are mages that have willingly given their body over to fiends for one reason or another. Any heretic is kill-on-sight, especially those of the Black Coven.
Aegis Academy would like to also remind it's students that while Demonkin look similar to Fiends, they are not Fiends and should not be regarded as such.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Winning the Shield Cup is the primary goal yearly for each House. After all, who wants to be stuck studying when the Midhaven Festival is in full swing?
To win the Shield Cup, students are encouraged to do the following:
- Do well on your exams.
- Explore and conquer dungeons, bringing back valuable materials for magic items.
- Win Duel Tournaments.
- Assist staff
- Capture Heretics.
Uniforms
The Aegis Academy Uniform consists of a long-sleeve button-up shirt, with an emblem of a shield on the sleeve, a vest or sweater vest, a pair of pants or a skirt, and comfortable shoes. The color of the Student's vest depends on what House the student is in.
- Elementalists: Red
- Mystics: Green
- Occultists: Blue
- Spiritualists: Black
Quick Start Guide
Okay, let's go ahead and get you started.
First off, you'll probably want the Narrator Card.
Then, make a Persona. Your Persona should detail if you're a student or a teacher. If you're a Student, include what House you're in. If you're a Teacher, clarify what class you're teaching. If you're teaching a class, classes not on the list are an option.
Grab a card, get chatting. That simple.
A Special Note on Persona Image Gen
People have been asking for help on genning their personas for this setting. So here are some sample prompts for you:
1girl, (hairstyle prompts), (figure), (racial features), (eye color), (color) sweater vest, skirt, long-sleeve shirt, emblem on shirt, (pose), magic classroom, fantasy theme, dark theme
1guy, (hairstyle prompts), (racial features), (Eye color), (color) vest, white long-sleeve shirt, emblem on vest, magic classroom, fantasy theme, dark theme
This was what I used for Lenna:
1girl, long green hair, large breasts, elf, short ears, dark blue eyes, ponytail, smile, blush, magic academy, red sweater vest, black skirt, stockings, long-sleeve shirt, emblem on shirt, looking at viewer, magical hallway, fantasy theme, high quality, best quality, masterpiece
And this is what I used for Aiden
1guy, handsome, brown hair, brown eyes, red button-up vest, white button-up long sleeve shirt, rolled up sleeves, black trousers, emblem on shirt, smile, looking at viewer, classroom, lightning magic, fantasy theme, volumetric lighting, best quality, masterpiece, amazing quality, absurdres, very aesthetic, newest
Teachers can be more free-form imo, though they are expected to look professional.
Inquisitors meanwhile generally wear hooded cloaks in addition to whatever armor they wear. Often in White/Blue. While priests tend to wear white-gold, the Inquisitors prefer white-blue to differentiate themselves from the clergy.

Scenario Card

The Newest Version is only available on Discord
Tried a different style with this card. I've gotten good feedback for it, so I hope you find it better than previous scenario cards.
Students
Aiden the Student

You can get it from my Discord
Surprisingly, Aiden is not Caralynn converted to male. In fact, Aiden came before Caralynn. However, his origins are similar to Caralynn's. After seeing Wicked, I wanted to make the dumbass student who didn't really care for school to begin with. Aiden's talents make him a wonder with magic and his status as a noble lets him get away with things. Though if we're being honest, compared to everyone else Aiden loves it at Aegis Academy. He wasn't happy back home, but here he gets to throw his weight around, flirt, screw around, and have fun.
Caralynn the Student

You can get it from my Discord
Okay let's get this out of the way. Fluffeh dragged me to go watch Wicked and let me be 100 I don't like musicals but Wicked was alright. I knew then that I needed to create a prep girl for the academy. Caralynn is that prep girl and she fits it to a T. With how, uh, busty the rest of female cast is I figured it was time to make someone who lacked in that department which then brought up the inevitable comparisons in Discord to another character of mine from a different series: Yumi.
Thus entered Caralynn's breast envy traits. Caralynn is completely convinced she's the Queen Bee of Aegis Academy. Beloved by all, popular, sweet, and only deserving of the best. But if you bring up other women she tends to flip out because your attention should only be on the star of the show: Caralynn.
Caspian the Student Council Vice President

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
I thought it'd be fun to include a Student Council with probably more power than they should have. So anyway, here's Caspian. His goal is to basically be the world's greatest wingman so the role of Vice President suits him greatly. Unlike Irene, he's still very much in the dark about how grim the Academy can be, with his parents basically having bought him out of having to do many dungeon runs.
Devrin the Student

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
I was wondering how I would do non-standard human type characters in Aegis Academy. It's a magical world, so they exist. But how do they exist, what's the life like? That's where Zara and Devrin came in. The thing I settled on ended up being that these students with more monstrous forms that could cast magic were indeed accepted into Aegis Academy but after time they were bullied and harassed to the point that it just became a better idea to shove them somewhere else.
So unlike other students, Devrin spends all his time in the Aegis Academy gardens, distrustful of others and 'hoping' to graduate.
Etnie the Student

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
Speaking of graduation, many astute people have noticed that while graduation is spelled out in the lorebook it's often... ominous. Yes, that's right. Graduation means you either get shuffled off to be Janitorial staff, thrown into dungeons, become a teacher, or whatever... But you can never leave Aegis Academy. Eventually you'll be found of some heresy or another, or killed on one of your runs, or killed by a student lost to a fiend. But Aegis Academy is your home. Forever.
Etnie didn't take that very well. So now you're her little sibling and she's going to dote on and protect you properly.
Irene the Student Council President

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
I wanted to see what would happen if I threw in a Student Council into Aegis Academy. Works out pretty well. Irene is your Kuudere girl mostly because she's traumatized to shit and back. Unlike Caspian, Irene isn't some nobles daughter and as such she's survived seven years in Aegis Academy. Seven brutal years that taught her everything from the Inquisitions brutality to the deaths in the Dungeons.
In an attempt to string her sanity together with duct tape, she's decided that rules are everything. It makes her the perfect Student Council president... provided she doesn't break.
Kanae the Student

You can get it from my Discord
You know what they say. It's not an actual series unless I add a Yandere to it. Well, here comes Kanae. Unlike previous Yandere's, Kanae is a Manipulative/Isolationist Yandere. She works behind the scenes to discredit you, make you rely on her, and then ultimately plans to make you hers and hers alone. After all, she's all you've got left.
Lenna the Student

I like elves and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny. That when an elf walks in with them pointed ears and a chill attitude you get ROMANCED.
I'm terrible at writing song lyrics.
Lenna was the first card I made for the series. One of my greatest failings for Aegis City Heroes and Aegis City Hunters was not making elves to begin with. Every series needs elves. I will find a way to make an elf in Love is a Battlefield.
No, I don't want to wear the straitjacket again!

Ria the Student

You can get it from my Discord
Much like elves, catgirls should be a mainstay in my series. Enter Ria. Ria is the sporty girl next door that you'd confuse for a guy if she didn't have two balloons strapped to her chest. When creating Ria I had envisioned your tomboy best friend archetype. Naturally, she gets along with Lenna and gets into fights along the way. In Adolion terms, she's Belle. She'll also be the best wingwoman you've ever had.
Royhan the Student

You can get it from my Discord
With Royhan I wanted to diversify beyond the magical cast away from lightning spells. Instead, Royhan belongs to the Occultist house as one of the weaker members. So, he compensates for his lack of magical talent with the thing he always excelled at: Potions. Flasks, bombs, more. He can make it all. Unlike Aiden he's more level-headed and actually enjoys learning. But also unlike Aiden, people don't like him due to his heritage as a demonkin. It's real easy to get mistaken for a Fiend with horns like his.
Zara the Arachne Student

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
I was wondering how I would do non-standard human type characters in Aegis Academy. It's a magical world, so they exist. But how do they exist, what's the life like? Teachers
Gavlan the Combat Class Teacher

You can get it from my Discord
I was just kinda fuckin around when I genned up this GILF. My previous male teacher was also a male elf, but he was younger with blonde hair. Another member of the server made a male elf with blond hair that looked similar so I scrapped him in favor of a meme about wanting to marry someone's grandpa.
With the teachers, we're starting to get into the concept of Aegis Academy not being a great place. The teachers have been here long enough to know how things work, that Aegis Academy isn't some glorious place to be, but a prison. I think the dark parts of this setting have been a bit too understated and now we can finally explore that.
Yvette the Dark Magic Defense Teacher

You can get it from my Discord
You know, I had Yvette in mind to be a nice teacher. And she certainly is that. But Yvette doesn't want to be in Aegis Academy, she found out the hard way that all of her suffering as a student, the hard work, everything. It had all been for nothing. There is no graduation. She had to become a teacher because that was the only path allowed to her.
And her misery at being forced to stay at Aegis Academy shows. She loves her students, but often mopes around. I think she turned out well in this regard to build on the idea of Aegis Academy being an awful place to be.
Inquisitors
Head Inquisitor Krieg Valforth

Krieg is my attempt to rectify another issue with my series: The lack of a proper villain to start with. Now with other antagonists (e.g. Gabriel/Alice Malvoraux, Okubo the Mad Hatter, Crypto/Inferno) they came later into the series, which led to a problem: Lack of another character to push problems in the narrative. This meant people had to use the scenario cards for villains, which led to often boring encounters.
In enters Krieg. Making a villain for Aegis Academy is surprisingly difficult. Too overtly evil and you just have the inevitable confrontation with them. Krieg is meant to be a recurring villain. You can't easily get rid of him specifically because it's his job to make sure you are on the level and he has the backing of the Kingdom.
So, uh, good luck I guess.
Alternate image in the gallery.
Senior Inquisitor Milena Sagona

You can get it from my Discord
Sexy Inquisitor lady. In contrast to Krieg, Milena is meant to be the carrot to Krieg's stick. She believes the best way to gather information is to work with the mages, since mages are naturally suspicious of Inquisitors. This is mostly hit or miss, since it's not like mages will trust her any more because she beats them less. That being said, I like Milena. She can be a difficult romance option for mages but at the same step she can also fill an antagonist role very well.
Fiends
Karael the Angel

You can get it from my Discord
Much like Valenyr, Karael is simply Male Philia. And I'll be honest, I have about 10 more bots to get through so I'll be brief and ask you to read Philia's entry for Karael, since everything for her stands for Karael.
Woooooo.
Philia the Angel

You can get it from my Discord
As a counterpart to Tylnara, Philia began as the question: Are there angels? I thought about it for a while and decided that yes, there were. But how did they come to be? Well, every Angel used to be a Fiend. The Angels are simply the Fiends that turned against the Fiend Queen and helped to erect the Veil.
You can get both Philia and Tylnara into your mind together (and honestly, this is my preferred route to go) but you have to work it a bit even on higher tier models. Make sure you're specific if you want that scenario. Usually they come to blows in my chats, so that's fun.
Tylnara the Fiend

You can get it from my Discord
Tylnara started as a spark of inspiration one day. I'd been debating how to get the villain routes in this series going when I had a thought. Who are the Fiends exactly? A common question in the discord is how the Fiends work and the best way I can describe it is as a possession. They wait in your mind, speaking to you in whispers. And if they ever fully gain control, well. You see what happened in Lenna's intro.
So, that begs the question: Is Tylnara lying to you? It seems like she genuinely cares about you and wants you to be happy. She doesn't appear to lie to you, she works to protect you, and she thinks you should be returned to the arms of the Fiend Queen. With Tylnara, I really wanted the goal to be confusion, I wanted there to be a sense of 'Is this actually the right path' when chatting with her. The way she talks is that there is a lot of injustice being done to you and other mages - and she's right about that.
Anyway, good luck don't die. Oh, Tylnara is only supposed to be visible to you and other Fiends. Lower tier models may struggle with this concept, but most modern models seemed to handle it.
Valenyr the Fiend

You can get it from my Discord
Valenyr is similar to Tylnara, but I'll admit I did take a bit of a copout here. Valenyr is just male Tylnara without any huge changes. Mostly just definition rewrites and intro rewrites to make sense as a male character. I'm told he's super horny, but at the same time respects boundaries? Neat.
Anyway, the goal with Valenyr is to make you question if Everin is really the right path. If what Valenyr says is true, every mage is bound to the Fiend Queen in some way and Everin severed that connection. If that's true, then is your destiny to return to the Fiend Queen?
Anyway good luck don't die.
Scenario Cards
The Black Coven

Located in the Aegis City Discord exclusively.
THAT'S RIGHT BABY IT'S FINALLY HERE A BLACK COVEN CARD YEEEEEEEEEEEAH
This establishes the Black Coven more thoroughly, giving them ranks and helps further solidify their nature as a "Terrorist Cell" located inside the school. They should make fairly good antagonists, as I tried to make them evasive rather than brute force fighters.
