Retro Rewind Fixes
- Make sure you have the latest version of Retro Rewind. You can check if you're updated by going to the start screen and checking the date. This should fix errors like 20917.
- If you're on PC, use the Auto-Updater to make things easier. If the auto updater isn't working, you can download the new files from Discord / 2 or the Wiki, and replace them over the old files yourself.
- Make sure "Enable Cheats" is turned off in Dolphins config tab, no gecko codes are enabled when you right click mario kart wii and select properties, and no mods are enabled. This should fix errors like 20900.
- Make sure "NAND Region" is set to disabled when starting the game through riivo patches on dolphin.
- If there are open rooms, but they're not letting you in, try resetting your console or Dolphin.
- Remove / Uninstall anything like Wiimmfi Patches, and if possible, try a unmodified copy of Mario Kart Wii.
- Make sure no old versions of Retro Rewind are enabled in Dolphin when right clicking MKW and selecting "Start with Riivolution Patches." You can also try removing old Retro Rewind presets from Dolphin.
- Try creating using a real Mii for the license. If your mouse cant reach certain parts of the screen, select "above tv" in the settings.
- For error 22007 try creating a new license.
- Try removing all dolphin files in your cdrive / %appdata%, retro rewind files, and Wheel Wizard, re-download everything and try again. You can backup saves from both
Riivolution\WheelWizard\riivolution\save
.
Wheel Wizard Fixes
- Right click Wheel Wizard, go to compatibility, make sure "launch as admin" is ticked, and click apply.
- If your antivirus is blocking Wheel Wizard, you may need to go into its settings and allow it, or click "more info" then allow.
- If Wheel Wizard is saying "denied path", delete the "rel" folder in RetroRewind6, then try updating with Wheel Wizard again.
- If Wheel Wizard keep crashing on launch or update, delete it, and download the newest version from here.
- Make sure your user folder path is correct in Wheel Wizard, there could be one hidden in %appdata%, where you have dolphin installed, or in documents.
- Make sure both your other paths are correct, if you move your MKW file, or your dolphin exe your Wheel Wizard paths need to be updated.
Dolphin Fixes
- To get staff ghosts on dolphin you have to go into
DolphinEmulator/Load/RetroRewind6/Ghosts
and copy all of them and paste it inDolphinEmulator/Wii/Shared2/Pulsar/RetroRewind6/Ghosts
. - If getting shader errors, try going to graphic settings and switching the backend, opengl, direct3d11/12 etc.
- If using a new NAND, use a fresh copy of dolphin, and keep in mind Retro Rewind doesn't require a NAND to begin with.
- Dolphin User Folder Locations (windows, mac and linux) + PC Steps
- If your controllers wont work, follow step 3 here. Make sure you don't have your controller set both as gamecube and wiimote as it causes overlap and doesn't function. Gamecube should be set to your controller, and wiimote to your mouse.
- If using your mouse as a wiimote isn't working well, try switching to "above tv" in Wii settings.
- Try updating dolphin if you haven't in awhile.
Console Fixes
- If you're on console, and there are multiple updates, you'll need to press the update button for each new update individually.
- Make there is no type of USB plugged into your console.
- Try launching the game through Riivolution, rather than than Retro Rewind channel, or vice versa.
- Make sure you're on a 2.4ghz connection, as 5ghz does not work for Wii.
Lag / FPS Fixes
- Try lowering your resolution settings in Wheel Wizard (or dolphin.)
- Try switching your renderer settings in Wheel Wizard (or dolphin.) Directx12 and Vulkan are both popular choices.
- Try Wheel Wizards "Recommended Settings."
- Try ticking the "disable fog" option under dolphin enhancements.
- Make sure the cpu emulation engine "JIT reocmpiler" is selected in dolphin config > advanced.
- See if disabling dual core speedup helps in dolphin config > general.
- Try a wired, rather than wireless connection if you can.
- Turn off any VPN if you have one on.
- Try disabling IPV6 and opening ports / 2.
- Note that you should be able to play at 100% speed otherwise you will lag online. If you can't achieve 60 FPS, try enabling 30 FPS performance mode in Retro Rewinds settings.
VR Fixes
Method 1
- Download and run Torran is Silly.
- Drag your save file in
Dolphin Emulator/Load/Riivolution/WheelWizard/riivolution/save/RetroWFC/RMCx/rksys.dat
onto the program. - Find your license and change the VR and hit save.
Method 2
Check if your rksys.dat save data is in either C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Riivolution\RetroRewind6\save\RetroWFC\RMCE
or C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Riivolution\riivolution\save\RetroWFC\RMCE
, and if it is, try moving it to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Riivolution\WheelWizard\riivolution\save\RetroWFC\RMCE
Method 3
You can also just edit your VR manually following this guide.
Remember to always close dolphin normally, don't alt+f4 as it could load a old save state and change your VR.
