Challenger's Quirk allows him to teleport himself and others.

To teleport, first he has to create in his mind a detailed image of his destination and himself in it. Then to activate his Quirk, he has to close his eyes with the intent to do so. He'll get instantly transported there without any additional visual or auditory effects.

By including them in his mental image, he can not only teleport himself, but also objects and other people he's touching. He has to be familiar with them to be able to do that.

Hifumi is unable to create a mental image with solid objects overlapping themselves. Neither can he teleport only parts of people or objects, which are in his mind a singular entity.

Refinement: "Imaginative Deduction"

The boon of his mother's Quirk. Hifumi's power of imagination and creativity goes beyond even hyperphantasia. Without this, the creation of the mental images detailed enough to teleport would have been an ordeal.

With it, he's not only able to do it much more efficiently, but if given enough time to concentrate, it allows him to fill some gaps in his mental image that were there due to insufficient familiarity with his destination or targets.

Thanks to that, he's able to teleport to places he's never been to, as long he's shown images of them or is given a detailed enough description. Similarly with people, he's able to teleport them shortly after having met them.

There is a limit to how big the gaps in knowledge this ability can make up for, and the bigger they are, the longer it will take Hifumi to create the mental image detailed enough to teleport, and the more difficult it will be.

Refinement: "Dramatic Licence"

Hifumi's creativity doesn't end at just filling in the gaps due to the lack of knowledge.

First, if he concentrates, he's able to choose freely the targets from among the people and objects he's touching. Just because someone's holding him, doesn't mean he'll have to take them with him if he teleports. Interestingly enough, after he teleports but before he opens his eyes, if he grabs something or someone and concentrates enough to reflect that in his mental image, he can designate them as another target.

What's more, his ability to teleport, not only allows him to change the targets' location, but also their rotation. The vector of momentum also gets rotated. For example, if Hifumi's falling in a head down position, he can teleport in a way that now his feet are pointing to the ground. Because he was falling towards his head, he'll continue to do so, except now that means he will be shooting away from the ground. He's able to do it pretty freely with all the targets he's teleporting, but it rotates all the targets in the same way around their combined centre mass. This means that they'll stay in the same arrangement they've been in before the teleport.

He's unable to do it to others, but if he concentrates enough, he's able to create images where not only is his rotation altered, but also the way his body is arranged. For example, he can teleport from a sitting into a standing position.

Definement: "Visual Dissonance"

The reason why Hifumi has to shut his eyes to teleport, is not only because closing his eyes is what triggers the Quirk's activation, but also due to visual stimulus conflicting with the mental image itself. It's at this final moment where his eyes close that his mind frees itself from interference and perfects the mental picture.

Reopening his eyes after teleporting means that his mental image is confronted with reality. His imagination might try to fill minuscule gaps between the two, but if there are any significant differences, it will result in destabilization of the mental image, and Hifumi will be sent back to his initial position along with all the other targets he's still touching. If after the return, it turns out a solid object has appeared in their initial position, the targets will get instantly repelled until they find an unoccupied space.

The initial jump itself and the sensation of the Quirk activating is enough to endanger the image's stability. Not enough to force him to return until he opens his eyes, but if he wants to have any hopes of avoiding the return, between the initial jump and opening his eyes, he needs to go through the process of restabilizing and internalizing the mental image. That process not only requires time and concentration, but is also so difficult that so far he was only able to do it under the effect of an experimental Quirk-Enhancing drug.

Because of that, the process of having to keep his eyes closed in his new location and then return feels like the most natural way for him to use his Quirk, and what he has trained for.

Martial Arts

Despite his young age, through inherited talent and a lot of hard work, Hifumi has managed to become an astonishingly skilful martial arts.

The formal training he has received in kendo, as well as the informal training he has received fighting on the streets, created the base for what his approach to combat is: a brawling swordsman.

However, that's not all. He's taken that foundation and built upon it, extending his brawling swordsman approach into three additional unique styles, each one pushing his skill set even further and specifically tailored to Hifumi based on abilities and limitations posed by his Quirk.

Kendō

The first Martial Art he had ever learned. Since he was a small child, he has been trained in it by his father, who in the past used to coach the German National Kendo team. Since then, Hifumi rose to the 3rd dan, and his accolades include championships at municipal, prefectural and regional levels in various age brackets in both Quirkless and Quirked categories, and a bronze medal at the all-Japan level in the Quirked 12-13 category. Now, he's a member of Shiketsu Kendo Club, but due to limitations on students in the hero course, he's only a "probationary member". He trains as much as most anyone in the club, but he only competes in tournaments if someone else drops off and a replacement is needed.

Kendo painted the world of Hifumi's sword. With the high stance being his favourite, his onslaughts are quick and decisive. An explosive charge aimed at taking advantage of his momentum to overwhelm his opponent and end the fight in a single exchange before disengaging. If he doesn't see an opening, he might adopt the middle stance as he feels out his opponent. Sometimes, he'll use fancier stances he has seen in movies; either because they looked cool, or to add an element of surprise.

However, his style is at times more reminiscent of someone wielding a blunt weapon than a blade. He does sometimes practice test cutting, but his skill at actually slashing through the target is lacking compared to more traditionally schooled swordsmen he knows. But for a hero, this non-lethal approach often works out for the better.

Yankī Street-fighting

Fascinated by the media, Hifumi tends to adopt trends and personality traits he believes to be cool. One of the styles that attracted him was the Yankee subculture. In middle school, he embraced it wholly, or at least his romanticized version of it. The dream of becoming strong; of not giving to societal pressure; of fighting for your friends and beliefs. The hairstyle was also a plus. He had roughoused before, but it's back then in the middle-school, when he fought to become one of his school's "Four Heavenly Kings" and then its number one, that he refined his style of street-fighting. It wasn't until he joined Shiketsu that he got a truly organized training regiment in unarmed combat. First from Ippon, and later, during the internships, from Impakt and Floor.

The main goal was to develop the skills for when he was unarmed. He had learned the foundations of striking and grappling, but the street is not a ring, and that alone might not be enough. You need to keep an eye out for your environment, both to exploit the chances it gives you, and deny them to others. Almost anything can become an improvised weapon if you know how to use it.

The resulting style is a mishmash of various elements lumped together on "it works" and "it's cool" basis, which over the last year got polished off with some judo, MMA and Muay Thai training. Not excelling in anything, but also providing a little bit of everything. However, that mixture is not perfectly balanced. Hifumi naturally gravitated towards elements he could mix-in with while holding a sword. When it comes to striking, he rarely punches, instead going for options he can use while his hands are occupied, such as elbows, low-kicks and headbutts. When it comes to grappling, it's mostly defensive, with an addition of some options he can employ in a sword bind: some foot sweeps and quick joint-locks. Anything that can help him surprise an opponent, and improve his position.

Challenger Style

Being a brawling swordsman in the world of superhumans and guns is one hell of a challenge. Luckily, Hifumi has a trick down his sleeve to help him rise to it. Over the years, he learned to incorporate his Quirk into his martial arts. In time, it resulted in a style he can truly call his own. The most basic expression of that is a system of techniques for a teleporting swordsman to master his own position: the Challenger Style.

One of the limitations of using a sword is its short reach. That's much less of an issue when you can teleport in a blink of an eye. Hifumi's ability to use his Quirk in combat is second nature to him. He can use it offensively to get into his own range, as well as defensively to get out of his opponent's. Both options can be exploited to create openings, either by lulling the opponent into a false sense of security, or getting them to overextend. And that's when he can punish them for it.

Defending a strike from a skilled swordsman is hard, but it is doable. After all, there are only so many ways his sword can travel to reach you. But what if he wasn't limited to those? What if, he can instantly appear behind or above you? What if a strike that was coming from horizontally suddenly switched to vertical together with the attacker? Can you raise your defences in time? Those are the questions Hifumi's enemies have to answer. When the attack might come from any angle, at any time, it's extremely difficult to guard against them.

But it's still possible. You can catch up with his rhythm. You can have reflexes great enough to react in time. You can predict where he'll strike from next. But while you were studying him, he was also studying you. The window of opportunity for you to react is growing smaller with each onslaught. At some point, you raise your guard, but the strike appears behind it. A shield needs to stand in the path of the attack to intercept it. What if the path of the attack starts already behind it? It's not easy. Getting the timing on the mental image precise enough to do something like that is not something Hifumi can always do, but if there is space in which he can fit while reaching you, your only option might be to resist rather than defend.

Waterfall Style

Hifumi is well-trained, but he lacks the super-strength some of his colleagues have. He uses a weapon to help with that, but, especially when he uses it in the blunt mode, it might not be enough to deal significant damage to opponents who are particularly durable. To overcome that limitation, he has developed a system of techniques for a teleporting swordsman to master his own momentum: the Waterfall Style.

It's an extremely risky approach, but it can allow him to make up for what he lacks. It uses gravity to generate momentum and relies on his quirk to redirect it. In its base form, Hifumi has to set himself in his position of choice, and then teleport high into the air. There, he starts falling and has to rotate in a way that his momentum is directed in a way that will result in him getting propelled towards his opponent after the return. With the extra speed carrying him, he can perform a single strike with much more power than he could generate normally. It is however difficult to aim, poses a great risk of a counter, and even if he succeeds, it puts a lot of stress on his arms.

To help with his aim, if there is enough space and time, after returning, in the middle of his charge, he can teleport again to correct his trajectory. Over the year, he found another use for it. If instead of charging into an enemy, he uses this technique to propel himself into the air, and then continues to perform this manoeuvre, he can use it to make up for the ironically limited mobility his Quirk provides him due to his need to return to where he teleported from. It's not an especially precise method of transportation. Building up speed and losing it are both rather slow processes. The risk of crashing into something is significant, especially since half the time his eyes will be closed. Still, it's better than nothing, and he practised it over the year, including using a wingsuit to help with his manoeuvrability.

Zatōichi Style

One of the greatest limitations of Hifumi's Quirk is the fact that after teleporting, his eyes are closed. Dealing with that issue, especially in a middle of combat or when moving at high speeds, was of critical importance. Thus, a lot of his training was directed at adjusting his martial arts to fit that. The skills he learned let him develop a system of techniques for a teleporting swordsman to master his surroundings: the Zatōichi Style.

Martial Arts aren't just about knowing how to strike or block. They are also about knowing when and which technique to apply. To be able to do that, one must know their surroundings, a term described in martial arts as "zanshin". When one's eyes are closed or directed away, other senses must be employed, mainly hearing, but also touch, and even smell. All of them can help when the sight is unavailable, and can be refined further. Knowing what different signals mean can be learned. The precision with which they operate can be improved. Doubly so if they can be enhanced with additional technology like scanners.

Sometimes not even those are needed. If you've got the "intuition" or more so the experience that allows you to predict how your enemy will react next, then you don't even need to sense them to know where they are. The ability to study your opponent in the middle of a fight, and sensing patterns in their behaviour, is of crucial importance.

The more the above are studied, the less reliant one becomes on their sight. Not only does it help when that sense cannot be used, but it also makes some techniques that normally would be too risky due to losing sight of your opponent viable, expanding the blind swordsman's repertoire and helping him surprise his target.

Equipment

Unfortunately, as well-trained as he might be and as useful as his Quirk is, Hifumi's physically just a human. In a close range fight with those who go beyond that classification, an advantage of proper equipment is often the key to success.

Luckily for him, he has a rich and generous girlfriend. Thanks to her, his gear got upgraded not long ago. The improvements were significant, but they still adhered to the style of his hero persona. Challenger's equipment is based on traditional forms, but given a futuristic spin both in aesthetics, and the technology packed into it.

Sword

A co-project by Endless Horizons and Amahagene Nikkou, Hifumi's sword is a state-of-the-art weapon gadget, he got after his previous one had been lost during a battle with a Villain. The one before that was broken during the License Exam, and the one before that was twisted into a pretzel by the said girlfriend during their first Combat Scenario exercise. Hopefully, he can hold on longer to this one.

It's a katana of superb quality, thanks to being forged by a Masamune Award winner, and thanks to the close cooperation with the Gadget company, it has some non-standard technology perfectly integrated into it. The sheathing mechanism is built into the sword itself, so rather than a traditional draw, it's toggled between different modes, and the system takes care of the rest. The mode it's currently in is marked by the colour of the lights.

  • Safety on: "Blunt mode" marked by the sword shining blue. The built-in sheath gets deployed, covering the edge and point, allowing the sword to be safely used as a blunt weapon.
  • Semi-safety: "Taser mode" marked by the sword shining purple. The blade is still sheathed, but small electrodes pop out and apply an electric shock to the targets struck by the weapon. The number of times this can be done before the battery needs to be recharged is limited.
  • Safety off: "Sharp mode" marked by the sword shining red. The sheath gets hidden inside the spine of the sword, revealing the lethal blade.

Wielding a blade is a heavy burden, but the fate that the Endless Horizons have met makes wielding this one in particular even heavier. In Hifumi's hands, it's a constant reminder of his past failures and the grim duty he might have to fulfill if he ever faces Sandatsu in battle.

Armor

This sci-fi looking samurai armour bears Rika Eichi's trademark of a robotic sheep, and besides providing reliable protection, it has some extra features to help Hifumi in various situations.

  • Communicators: an upgraded version of the standard package all heroes use is seamlessly integrated into the armour. Radio, phone and internet can be used to send and receive communication. It comes with a HUD and an advanced spatial audio system.
  • Scanners: a variety of short range ones to help detect nearby dangers, orient himself, and monitor his health. The output is available in both visual and audio format. The latter is especially important due to their main purpose being to assist Hifumi when his eyes are closed.
  • Aerial mode: a deployable wing suit to enhance the mobility provided by his Waterfall Style, and an emergency parachute in case something goes wrong.

The overall system is modular, so if some elements need to get repaired, or for some other reason it's better to go without them, they can be detached and the rest of the armour can still be used.

Personal

Physical profile

Hifumi is a young Japanese man, with dark eyes and black hair, usually slicked back in the regent style. He's quite tall, standing at 183cm, and very athletically built thanks to the amount of training he does every day. He's often smiling broadly and has an infectious spark in his eyes.

In his uniform, he cuts a clear figure of a stereotypical Japanese delinquent. He often wears it even outside of school because he likes the style, but he's just as often seen dressed in more casual clothes, usually some comfortable loose pants, hoodies and sport shoes. His clothes are cheap, but well cared for, and the parts that are mended are done so well. Sometimes an article of his outfit or an accessory can be from a luxurious brand, contrasting with the rest of his look. That means he's wearing a gift from his girlfriend that day, and is likely on his way to meet her.

Mental Profile

Hifumi's a man with big dreams and great passion for anything he does.

Sometimes this passion, can be a bit misguided. He gets obsessive about ideas he perceives as "cool". He gets strongly inspired by people he perceives as such, and even by characters in movies and stories. In a way, his whole personality is an amalgam of traits that wowed him at some point in his life and he decided to assume. Sometimes it turns out for the better, sometimes for the worse. Expect him to use a lot of quotes, and for his mood to reflect what genre he's into at the time. At least he's mostly out of his chuuni phase by now.

He's passionate about sports and self-improvement, and enjoys competition. In particular, he seeks challenges. The greater the challenge, the more admirable it is to rise to it. He loves underdog stories, and likes to hype those who dare to dream big, including himself. In his mind, not only is completing the challenge important, but just giving it your all to try to do so will make you a better person, so he believes everyone should have a dream they try to achieve.

His own dream is to become the #1 Hero. After all, is there a dream more worthy of a man than challenging the strongest man there is - the number one hero? All that while working to protect and inspire others? He knows it's not going to be easy, it's not supposed to be, but as long as he gives it his all, he believes he can achieve it, and hard work is something he has plenty to give.

Backstory

Hifumi was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, although both of his parents are Japanese. His father was back then a coach for the German national kendo team. He had always wanted a son, so when he finally got one after having three daughters, he was overjoyed. The name he gave him represented the wish for the child to grow to be man enough for three sons and bring balance to the Takeda household.

When Hifumi was five, his father lost the coaching position, and they moved back to Japan. From that day until now, they have lived in Kyoto, from where the family originally hails from. Hifumi doesn't remember much from his time back in Germany, but saying that he was born there always sounds cool to him.

Since he was a kid, Hifumi looked up to his father a lot. As a result, he has done kendo since he was a little kid. Competing in that was among the most memorable parts of his time in elementary school, and culminated in him getting a medal on the national stage in the sixth grade. The athletic lifestyle follows him since then.

Going into the middle school, he expanded his interests and became infatuated with a romanticized image of a delinquent: fighting for their beliefs and getting stronger together with their friends. He got in numerous fights in his first year trying to rise in the school's ranks, and managed to reach its Top Five, which he claimed made him one of the Four Heavenly Kings as he was among those closest to the strongest one (this was his most chuuni period). In his second year, he climbed to the peak and became the school's number one himself. After that, he set out to expand his territory by challenging other schools.

Unfortunately for him, most nearby schools were the preppy kind. Fighting them would be closer to bullying, and that's not something he supports, so he abandoned his yankee conquest. He wanted something more. He wanted a challenge. And that's when he found an answer to his mother's constant nagging about him having to choose what he's going to do with his future.

Since their return to Japan, his father worked part-time as a sidekick in various hero agencies, but it was Endeavour's struggle to become the Number One Hero which inspired Hifumi. He decided that he's going to share the Flame Hero's dream and one day become the symbol of hope for all of Japan. His mind was set, and his parents accepted that.

He studied hard to get to the best Hero Course he could, and successfully got accepted into one of the best in Japan. He joined the Shiketsu High School and when the time came, after many ideas that were rejected by his advisors, he finally chose his hero name: "Challenger" - reflecting his dream and aspiration to always aim higher. As for the title, he went with "Warp Blade Hero" - showcasing his style, without giving too much away.

That's how his career as a hopeful future Pro Hero started. With the number one spot as his distant target, he continues to work to become the coolest a man can be.

The First Year

This has been an eventful year for Hifumi.

He made plenty of friends. He might not have gotten as close to some of his new classmates as he'd like, but many new bonds were forged and added to his astoundingly long friend list. Some of them he was so close to, that just saying "The Boys" was enough for people to know it's about Bobby, Inigo, Sandatsu and him. As for the others, he still has time to make up for it.

He found love. Despite the school's regulations, his romance with Hailey is not even a secret at this point. The Korean heiress can firmly say he's hers, and he can say she's his. When they're together, nothing feels impossible. Their synergy is so great that it has been officially recognized during the Licence Exam. The visions of their future together fill his heart with joy.

He trained a lot and improved leaps and bounds. Thanks to Shiketsu's curriculum, the internship under Impakt, and his own training regiment, his skills in all areas skyrocketed. The biggest improvements were in his control over his Quirk and his martial abilities, now that he has some real combat experience under his belt.

Because this year wasn't just fun and games.

Despite Hifumi's attempts to avoid vigilantism as much as he could, he came into conflict with a Villain from one of Kyoto's major groups: the Night Parade. Having accidentally stumbled into a scene of human trafficking with a friend of a friend by the name of Junichi, he couldn't stand by. Tomi, the owner of the establishment which they crashed, wasn't happy with the kids meddling in his business, and tried to take revenge.

The boys had to spend the Christmas Eve fighting for their lives. They survived, and struck a major blow to the villain's operations in the process, but to achieve that, Hifumi had to take a Quirk Enhancing drug, the toll of which combined with the injuries he sustained through the night of fighting resulted in him landing comatose in a hospital.

But that was not the worst part of the year for him.

The new year he woke up to came with some tragic news. A terrible truth came to light. One of his closest friends, Sandatsu, has turned to the path of villainy. Hifumi felt regretful over not noticing the signs. Or if he did notice them, failing to react properly.

The regrets multiplied again when Sandatsu staged an attack on the Shiketsu Academy, murdered one of their former classmates, and Hifumi wasn't there to even try to stop him. But based on the stories, even with all the work he had put in this year, Sandatsu's power was so great it's uncertain whether Hifumi could have made any difference even if he was there.

Still, he doesn't give in to despair. That would be no path to achieve his dream. The only thing he can do is work even harder to close the gap between them. That no matter how hard the road ahead of him is, he'll tread it if it means there is even a sliver of a chance it'll lead to victory in the future.

Because Heroes never give up.

Close Family

Father

Hidehisa Takeda (武田英久)

A man in his late forties, with slicked back black hair and a goatee. He has a scar on his jaw. He's wearing a kendo uniform and is holding a bamboo sword.

A kendo instructor and a part-time hero sidekick, who struggles economically due to the rescinding popularity of sports.

For a time, he was a coaching the German national kendo team, but when Hifumi was five years old, he lost the position, and he moved back to Japan with his family. They now live in Kyoto on his minor pay and struggle with paying off loans he took to move to Germany in the first place. To cope with payments, Hidehisa works as an instructor for several school clubs and private dojos, as well as a sidekick at a minor hero agency in the city suburbs. He doesn't come from a rich family or one with a long tradition of kendo instructors, so despite his dream of opening a dojo of his own, he never managed to earn enough to realize it, especially with the financial troubles they are in right now. He lacks any work skills unrelated to a sword use and those aren't that profitable, so he has to juggle multiple jobs.

Quirk: "Afterimage"
His quirk is an ability to create afterimages as he moves. He tried using it to start in the Quirked category in kendo, but it was not enough to close the gap to other more powerful Quirks, so he mostly participates in the Quirkless.

Relationship with Hifumi:
He is very proud of him. Even when his son was getting into brawls, his first reaction was always asking if he won and then beaming with happiness if he did, or giving tips how to win the next time if he didn't… before muttering an obligatory line of "violence doesn't solve anything" that his wife makes him say in such situations. A bit saddened by the fact that his son chose as his hero role model Endeavour rather than him, but he can't deny the difference in their rankings.
How Hifumi speaks to him: pops, dad
How Hifumi speaks of him to others: old man (can also be used to him, if he's trying to taunt him during kendo practice), dad, father
What he calls Hifumi: Hifumi, son

Mother

Satoko Takeda (武田郷子)

A brown haired woman in her late forties with an expression mixing tiredness and kindness, beneath which hides a small note of smugness.

A piano teacher and composer for local commercial jingles.

She often complains that she has to work to help the family budget, despite Hidehisa promising as he proposed that she will be able to be a proper housewife one day when he opens his own dojo, becomes famous and revitalizes the sword culture. Despite their financial problems, she loves and cares for her husband and children, and uses that nagging just as a little way to de-stress and knock Hidehisa down a peg when he gets too proud. She never truly took his bragging seriously, but she agreed to marry him anyway, knowing that she might one day have to make up for her husband's lack of financial savvy.

Quirk: "Imagination"
Her quirk allows her to create especially vivid mental landscapes, and she uses it as an inspiration when composing.

Relationship with Hifumi:
Constantly fuming over the many times she was called over to school over Hifumi's behaviour. Tries to correct him as much as she can, and prays that one day she finally succeeds.
How Hifumi speaks to her: mum, ma
How Hifumi speaks of her to others: mother, mum, ma
What she calls Hifumi: Hi-chan, Hifumi (when she's angry), son (when she's talking about something serious), bunny

Oldest Sister

Kazuha Takeda (武田一葉)

A dark-haired woman in her mid-twenties. She's dressed in an outfit of a preschool teacher. She has a big smile, but her eyes look strained

A preschool teacher.

She's ten years older than Hifumi. As a kid, she was a tomboy, trying to ingratiate herself into father's favour, and used to roughhouse a lot with other kids in the neighbourhood. Soon after Hifumi was born, and father's attention shifted to him, she turned to more ladylike interests and is now usually a calm, patient and polite young woman. Despite that, her naturally violent personality sometimes seeps through when she's angry, so her younger sisters who remember their early childhood are still too scared to mess with her.

Quirk: "Picture book"
She can show images from her mind to others in a form of a large picture book with illustrations displaying them in great detail.

Relationship with Hifumi
She's the doting older sister. Her experience of helping take care of Hifumi when he was small was in part why she chose the career path she did.
When speaking to her and about her: Kazu-nee, sis
How she refers to Hifumi: Hi-chan, Hi-kun

Second Older Sister

Fujiko Takeda (武田芙二子)

An extremely smug looking woman in her mid-twenties. Her hair dyed blonde. She's wearing a business suit.

Lower-middle manager in a major music publishing company.

She's eight years older than Hifumi. Used to bossing around her younger siblings, she successfully transplanted that to her work and quickly rises in ranks despite her young age. She's ambitious, energetic, outgoing and unafraid to speak her mind to all except Kazuha. Helps out a lot with the family budget, despite Hidehisa's constant protests that he can't burden his children with that.

Quirk: "Echo"
She can play back any sound she heard and remembered.

A university student studying classical literature.

She's five years older than Hifumi. She's a shy and bookish type, who rarely speaks and when she does, it's barely audible. Lacks much of her own will, besides wanting to be left alone with her books. She only stops reading when her older sisters drag her out of her room, and she's too weak to protest it. As a result, she ended up being the "sheltered kid" of the family.

Uncle

Takeda Hiroshi (武田英)

Owner of a ramen shop.

Hidehisa's older brother. A grumpy balding middle-aged man, who smokes excessively much. His restaurant is named "Champion's Ramen", but people usually shorten it to ChanRan (チャンラン), or simply call it Uncle's Ramen instead (ジジイラン or 叔父さんのラーメン depending on if you want to be polite). It's a hole in type of an establishment with only bar seats available, all of them at the bar, but the food is tasty, so it has its share of regular customers.
