Truth be told, this plot was supposed to come out earlier, but updates to our favorite site threw me off my usual groove. I won’t whine about it for the tenth time, though—instead, let me tell you how the story came together.
The idea belongs to the wonderful Daisy, with whom I share a love for Stephen King’s Misery. By the way, be sure to check out Daisy’s account (link in the description on JAI)—bots are amazing!
Stephen King was one of my favorite writers during my teenage years, from 16 to 18. I’ve always loved horror and thrillers, and Misery is brilliant both as a book and a movie. King has influenced my writing style in many ways, too—thanks to him, I got introduced to English swear words and slang.
Out of my deep love and respect for King, I decided to make this bot a big nod to Misery and his other works. For example, Julian is also a writer, and the story takes place in Castle Rock. The track I recommend (The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter”) is another tribute—King’s a huge classic rock fan and holds this song dear, connecting it to some of his stories.
