The Idolon of Ran's elder twin brother. A creature of a conflicted nature, it often acts as an angel on Ran's shoulder, but can also exasperate his worse instincts. A physical monster able to shield his allies and carry brutal retribution to those who wrong them. A seemingly simple brute, who somehow appears to see into the minds of his opponents.

The Idolon does not merge cleanly with Ran. There is a clean vertical split, where the left side holds the will and personality of his brother, and the right side concentrates those parts of Ran that his brother did not share. Thus, when incarnating, even if the two sides appear to be working together, they in fact act semi-independently, and if they fail to keep the balance, the results can be disastrous. If the left sight fails to reign in the right, the unchecked violent tendencies, aggression and impulsiveness can spell Ran's doom as he'll leap into the fray without a thought of self-preservation. If the left side dominates, Ran's will might get overridden by that of Ken's lingering id, and lead him to put the little-brother's safety above all else, possibly dragging him away from danger even if it were to go against Ran's larger goals.

Backstory

Backstory

The Nejima family had its issues. A father who was always away on business trips, until his reason for leaving home changed to a prison sentence for fraud. A mother who's more interested in wasting her husband's money on host clubs than raising her children. Yet, a true measure of a man is his ability to rise above his circumstances, and the eldest son of the Nejima family managed to do just that. A star student, responsible, friendly, dreaming of becoming a doctor, full of bright prospects for the future.
Unfortunately, despite Ken extending a helping hand time and time again, Ran did not follow in his twin brother's footsteps. It started simple. Skipping school, some shoplifting, a fight here or there. But as the years grew by, Ran got mixed in with ever worse groups. Bad students changed into delinquents. Delinquents changed into juvenile gangs. Finally, even yakuza caught interest in him. Having beat up one of their junior members, Ran put a target on himself.
But the payback strayed. The gangsters mistook Ken for Ran, and the former, trying to protect his brother, did nothing to dissuade them. Only after they've kidnapped and beaten him within an inch of his life did he reveal the truth. Having learned of their mistake, the gangsters didn't decide to release him, instead, they've used him as bait for his brother.
Ran did not think much. Without a plan, he jumped on the first bus to the backwater where the meting place was set. Once there, one boy noticed Ran's distress, and despite the insistence to leave him alone, he decided to accompany him. Whether it was out of hurry, or just something about the boy's presence, Ran ended up accepting his help. And he should be forever thankful for it.
Things inside went badly. The part about it being a trap was obvious, but the nature of it, less so. There was something supernatural in the viciousness with which the yakuza fought. Had it not been for the newly met boy's help, Nejima twins would likely have met their end that day, but thanks to the luck and skill brought on by him, they've lived to tell the tale. Well, in a way.
Ken ended up in a coma. But while his physical body lied unresponsive on the cold floor of the warehouse he's been held at, his soul awakened and bound itself to his little brother.
With the newly found powers and debts to pay, Ran followed Shu Jinkō to the Higan Academy, eager to not repeat his past mistakes, and make up for them by serving as the shield of the Student Council.
