Inigo's First Date

I.

Inigo Myoga, known as the hero student Ryu-kishi, was sitting in his dorm room at Shiketsu High School, flipping through ideas on his notebook. He'd been trying to come up with a plan to impress a certain girl in his class. Through sheer luck he had a date with her that evening. "A date with the prettiest girl in class, can you believe it, Gigan?" A small pocket-sized green dragon jumped on his lap and mewed nuzzling his hand. Inigo grinned widely and held up the movie tickets. "I spent all my money on these, but it's gonna be worth it! I wonder what she'll be wearing. Maybe she'll want to go back to my place and then." Inigo started to daydream, but is interrupted by his phone buzzing with a text message from his uncle, who he's been trying to avoid. "Inigo, we need you back at the headquarters. The Redhats are getting too close to our operations." Inigo groaned. He had other plans, but he knew he couldn't ignore his uncle's request.

II.

He packed his things and headed to the city's warehouse district. When he arrived at his family's hideout, his uncle greeted him with a scowl. "You're supposed to be our spy in Shiketsu, but you've given us nothing." Inigo shuffled his feet impatiently. "I've been studying and training to be a hero. I need time to win over their trust."

His uncle sneered. "You want to be a hero? That's not what our family does. We're villains, Inigo. We use others and look out for the family's interest. And you're supposed to be helping us do that. Don't forget."

Inigo shook his head. "It's not that simple for me. My power only works for good. And besides, the main family kicked me out remember?"

His uncle scoffed. "Yeah yeah, but now's your chance nephew. The Redhats were snooping around and took one of our own. You remember Old Man Jenkins right? They have him in their base, along with other poor saps they're trying to ransom. Go and show them what we do to rival gangs that screw with us. You can even do your hero thing."

III.

Jenkins was an old friend. It wasn't hard for Inigo to convince his quirk to help. He sighed as he approached the rival gang's base. Inigo called out to his quirk and Gigan transformed into shimmering green projection armor around Inigo's body. The armor hummed with energy, and Inigo felt invincible.

Inigo kicked open the door to the hideout and was immediately met with a hail of bullets. They were waiting for him. He barely had time to react, but his armor held strong, deflecting the bullets harmlessly away. "Just as we practiced. Gigan!" Inigo raised his hand, as a large pair of wings emerged from behind his armor and blew a powerful gust of swirling wind into the room.

The Redhats members inside were caught off guard by Inigo's quirk. They scrambled to their feet trying to regroup, but Inigo was too quick for them. He weaved through the gangsters, his armor flashing as he threw punches and kicks at the thugs, each strike enhanced by the green dragon's claw projections.

As the last thug fell, Inigo heard people whimpering in the distance. He reached the backroom of the hideout and kicked open the door to see a dozen tied-up men and women. Jenkins, bruised and beaten, was in the corner looking up at him. Inigo sighed in relief and began snapping their bindings.

Police sirens rang out in the distance as Inigo freed the last captive

"Come on, let's go." Inigo said, as he led them out. Together, they made their way out of the hideout, Inigo's armor glowing in the dim light.

"You get them all boy?" Jenkins said as they moved through the alleyway.

"I think so." Inigo smirked. "You're losing your touch old man. How'd you get caught?"

"Caught? It was your Uncle's idea. He said it'd force you and your stupid quirk to help. Damn fools. Redhats never knew we were making a move. Your uncle's hitting their other bases as we speak."

Inigo gritted his teeth. "So he used me to win more territory for the gang."

Jenkins chuckled. "Don't take it personally kid, you know how the family works."

IV.

Inigo ran through the streets, his heart pounding. He had a date with the girl of his dreams, he was already thirty minutes late. He had planned the perfect date, complete with flowers, and a movie, but his family got in the way. Inigo cursed himself for being so foolish. Why did he have to save all those people? Couldn't his uncle have waited until after the date?

As Inigo arrived at the movie theatre, his heart sank. She was nowhere to be seen. He stood alone, staring at all the couples flooding into the building.

"Excuse me, have you seen a cute girl with short black hair and brown eyes?" Inigo asked the ticket clerk.

The hostress nodded sympathetically, "I'm sorry hon, she was here, but she left about ten minutes ago. She said she didn't have time to wait." Inigo felt a pang of guilt in his chest. He had messed up his chance to impress the girl he liked. He was going to be alone forever.

He trudged back to his dorm room, feeling defeated. As he entered his room, Gigan was waiting for him, its eyes filled with concern. "I messed up, buddy. I was too late." Gigan nuzzled him gently, trying to comfort him. "It's not like I could tell her what I was doing right? I'm not even licensed to do hero work yet." Inigo sighed. "It's just you and me again tonight."
