The Great Wall of Pingviinilä

The pesky Dragoons and Rosebutas have always been a threat to the Kingdom of Pingviinilä since its founding. Constant raids from both of them forced the borders back and it was thus in the year 574, King of Pingviinilä Petteri II order the construction of a wall from the Hyljejoki River in the south along the border to the Louhikäärmeenhuiput in the north. It would be 520 miles long in total, but 357 of it would be of stone construction while 163 would be of Turf. This was because the southern section of the wall facing the Rosebutas ran behind the Hyljejoki river and the Rosebutas weren't considered as big of a threat.

The stone wall was 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide. It had Forts containing 500 men every 12 miles and Watch towers every 2 miles, in total having 30 forts providing a maximum garrison of 15,000 and 179 Towers. The garrison usually was around 8,000 to 12,000 men however in practice. The turf wall was 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. It had 5 forts along it, and 50 towers. The total garrison for the turf wall was only 2,500 men.

The construction of the first wall was in part funded by the Alte Fürstentümer, mainly Pomerania under its legendary King Pomeranius the Great. Since the Kingdom of Pingviinilä joined the Empire in 567, Pomeranius had saw it along with the Margrave of Rosenkranz as buffer states against both the defeated Dragoons and future threats. He thus sent both income and thousands of displaced settlers that were overcrowding his cities to Pingviinilä to aid in the construction and defense of the wall. With the warlike and industrious Pomeranians being ideal for this, Petteri gladly accepted this, and the Pomeranians would prove to be a vital addition to the defense of his Kingdom long term. The wall took 12 years to build, but when done was the perfect tool to protect the northern borders against their neighbors.

However, with time, the wall would become outdated and would need to be modernized. This rebuilding effort would come in 958, after the Kingdom of Drakenland was reunified and began to immediately cause problems for the Kingdom. Petteri VIII, a strong ruler came up with a strong response. He would order this wall to be even taller, at 18 feet, even wider at 12 feet, have a fort every 8 miles and a tower every mile. He also orders the construction of a new wall across the Hyljejoki that would not be the same turf wall as the past but of the same construction as the rest of his new wall. To accomplish this mammoth task, he not only invited more Pomeranians, but also Dilupakanesi that worshipped the Penguin loving Goddess Amicia Michella, Fantasmans, Bedstviyites, and many displaced Pétales from their destroyed realm. Taking 19 years for this to happen, the wall was completed in 977 VTE. It now had 65 forts, and 520 towers; with a garrison of 32500 at max, but in reality, was around 25,000 to 28,000.

Since this upgrade, more minor updates have been made to the wall, including modern fortification techniques, artillery and bastions. As of now, the wall still keeps the border secure and in the opinions of many of the Kingdom's citizen, has been an excellent deterrent to their warlike neighbors. It stands as a wonder of the world and a symbol of unity in the Empire, with many villages and towns along the wall being made up of the many different ethnicities that were invited to help construct and maintain it.
