Paragraph One Draft

"What is a song that you believe relates to The Marrow Thieves?"

"M3 n MIN3" by Femtanyl is a fitting song for the book "The Marrow Thieves" and represents it very well. In the song, the lyrics "You made me the culture, it just wraps back to back around." Can be applied to the book's main story of how in the future, Indigenous people are being hunted and killed again. These are things that happened hundreds of years ago and it wraps back around to the present time of the book. When Femtanyl says "I was up in life, until you popped the nerves inside my eyes." can be related to how rights for Indigenous people had been getting better, until non-Indigenous people stopped dreaming, and began to hunt Indigenous people, getting rid of the rights they had worked for hundreds of years to gain. "You made my mind up for me, think I'll just stick to me 'n mine." Relate to how Indigenous people now had no choice in having to stick together, because it's out of a need for protection. The lyrics in the last verse "I got a girl and we're best friends and I hope that we'll get out of this okay" are reminiscent of Frenchie and Rose, Frenchie hoping that they'll be able to make it out of their situation together. The lyrics "Find me on the street, teeth shattered on the pavement. I get up and bite for another taste" and "Puke on stage and I'm fighting for the pride in the pit til' the skin's ripped off my face" represent the resilience of the family, that no matter what happens, they'll get back up still fighting for both themselves and each other. "This is my life and you can never take that, you will never put me in my grave." Represents how the family will keep on fighting to stay alive, that they have control of their own lives and nobody will ever be able to take that from them. The song is also very loud and panicked, likely how the family feels during all of this. In conclusion, the song "M3 n MIN3" by Femtanyl relate almost perfectly, both by lyrics and sound, to the book "The Marrow Thieves".

Paragraph One Final

"What is a song that you believe relates to The Marrow Thieves?"

The song "M3 n MIN3" by Femtanyl fits the theme of the book "The Marrow Thieves" very well through both the lyrics and the overall sound. The lyrics "You made me the culture, it just wraps back to back around." as well as "I was up in life, until you popped the nerves inside my eyes.", apply to how in "The Marrow Thieves", Indigenous people in the future are being killed once again like in the past, even if in current years Indigenous rights have become a lot better. "You made my mind up for me, think I'll just stick to me 'n mine." relates to how the Indigenous people in the story were given no choice in their situation, and have to stick to with each other just to have a chance of survival. The lyrics in the last verse "I got a girl and we're best friends and I hope that we'll get out of this okay" are how Frenchie feels about Rose, hope that they'll be able to be safe together. Femtanyl writes "Find me on the street, teeth shattered on the pavement. I get up and bite for another taste" and "Puke on stage and I'm fighting for the pride in the pit til' the skin's ripped off my face". These lyrics relate to the families resilience and how they're willing to fight for their survival. The lyrics "This is my life and you can never take that, you will never put me in my grave." represent how the family will keep fighting for both themselves and each other, no matter what.

Paragraph Two Draft

"Do you believe social media has a positive or negative impact on society? Explain your viewpoint with examples."

I believe that social media has had a net positive impact on society, because of the connections, hobbies, and organizations that couldn't have been created or found without the use of social media. I personally have found a multitude of meaningful connections with people across the world that I wouldn't have had the chance to meet without social media, and I know that other people have also found friendships and even relationships through the usage of social media. I have many hobbies that would not have been found without the use of social media. I found an hobby in graphic design online, and I don't think that I would have found such a thing to appeal to me without social media. Without social media, I would not have created my organization that I currently run, for said graphic design hobby, as there would be no place to run it. Social media has changed both my and so many other peoples lives. It allows people to make new connections, find new hobbies, and start organizations that couldn't have been made without it.

I found a hobby in graphic design online, and I don't think that I would have found such a thing to appeal to me without other people using social media to influence me. Through the use of social media, I have been able to join a large community of people with similar interests to me, and get new friends. Without social media, this community would've never been able to be made, as there would be no place to host it. Social media has changed both my and so many other peoples lives. It allows people to make new connections, find new hobbies, and join communities that couldn't have been made without it.

Paragraph Three Draft

"What is your favourite game, and why does it resonate with you? Discuss the themes or characters that make it meaningful."

One of my favourite games is Silent Hill. The Silent Hill games explore many different sensitive and hard to talk about topics, such as death, religion, suicide, human psychology, guilt, and much more depending on which game you play. The most popular game in the franchise is Silent Hill 2. In Silent Hill 2, you play as James Sunderland as he makes his way through Silent Hill to find his wife, who has supposedly been dead for a long time. The entire time, James' memory of the event is also called into question through the supporting cast, and especially through Laura. Laura stayed in the hospital with his wife, and got very close during this time spent together. Laura often gets angry with James when he says something that isn't true, or when he believes her to be incorrect. At the end of the game, James faces the truth that his wife is dead and isn't waiting for him like he believed her to be. The thematic uses of loss, guilt, depression, and suicidal ideation strike a chord with me personally, as it is a great showcase of how people are never as black and white as they may seem, and that sometimes good people can do bad things.

One of my favourite games ever is Silent Hill 2. The Silent Hill games explore many different sensitive and hard to talk about topics, such as death, religion, suicide, psychology, guilt, and many more things depending on which game you play. In Silent Hill 2, you play as James Sunderland as he makes his way through the town of Silent Hill to find his wife, who called him there and has supposedly died from a terminal disease a long time ago. Throughout the entire game, James' memory of the event is also called into question through the supporting cast, and especially through Laura, who stayed in the hospital with his wife while she was ill. She and Mary got very close during this time spent together, and Laura often gets angry with James when he says something that isn't true, or when he insinuates that she's incorrect about something. At the end of the game, James faces the truth that his wife is dead and isn't waiting for him like he believed her to be. The thematic uses of loss, guilt, depression, and suicidal ideation resonate with me personally, as it is a great showcase of how people are never as black and white as they may seem, and that sometimes good people can do bad things.

Paragraph Four Draft

"How does media capture the audience’s attention?"

Entertainment is made to relate to the consumer. To do this, the creator needs to grab your attention. How a media will get that attention varies from media to media, but all medias have their own strengths they need to play into to be seen as worthy of someones time. This is why every form of media has so many genres, so you can choose what you like and avoid what you dont. Written media will show you scenes through vivid descriptions and use things like metaphors to help with that, making you visualize what youre reading. The methods of capturing an audience's attention are so different for every media and genre that there's really no one way to do it.

Paragraph Four Final

"How does media capture the audience’s attention?"

Entertainment is made to resonate with the consumer. To do this, the creator is required to grab your attention. The ways a media will capture attention from it's audience is variable depending on the type of media it is. Movies, shows, games, music, and books all have their own strengths they have to play into to be considered worthy of the consumers attention, that's why everything has a multitude of genres, so that you, the consumer, can pick and choose what you enjoy the most. Written media will create vivid descriptions through the use of things like metaphors and similes to keep the readers attention by helping them envision what is currently going on in the story. Tons of medias will also use things like cliffhangers to keep a person's attention, awaiting the resolution of a conflict in the next chapter or installment of the series. Video games and movies in specific use powerful visuals to keep a viewer watching or playing for longer, through things like fight scenes, fetch quests, and puzzles to play along with. The methods of capturing an audience's attention are so varied for every media and genre that there is truly no one correct way to do it, the creators just have to play into the strengths of their media and genre to create interesting stories that people will want to see through to the very end.

Reflection

I received little to no feedback on a majority of these paragraphs. The feedback I did receive was mainly positive with some clarification issues present in my work. A majority of the time, I just read it over myself and fixed what felt clunky to read or too wordy. During revision, I focused on making my paragraphs easier to read and digest, getting rid of anything necessary, and covering my topic more efficiently. My final drafts differed from the rough drafts heavily for almost all of them. The final drafts were usually more put together, longer, and covered the topic at hand with more efficiency than the rough draft.
