FALLOUT 4 LOST WORLD: STALKER

Lost World
Description
"Lost World" was a STALKER/Metro-themed modlist (+300 mods with custom compatibility patches) for Fallout 4 hosted by Fallout4Experiences which shut down in April 2024 following the Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update and the author retiring from FO4 modding. The modlist had only been tested for the pre-update version (downgrade/disabling update required), Next-Gen Update might break it and require a lot of compatibility patching.
This project aimed to provide a fine-tuned, curated experience, attempting to turn Fallout 4 into an immersive, hardcore survival shooter:
- Harsh post-apocalyptic setting: the world is unforgiving and doesn't revolve around the player; radiation, environmental hazards and dangerous foes are everywhere and require you to be prepared for every situation, calculate every risk, weigh every consequence; RPG-influenced, power-fantasy and casualized/consolized elements (level scaling, bullet spongey combat, Power Armors, VATS, quick loot, quest markers, etc.) have been eliminated/reduced everywhere possible to favor "realistic" or grounded, real-time gameplay and immersive, survival-oriented challenge; other RPG systems like XP gain have been slowed down to make specialization meaningful, Perks have been overhauled to compliment more challenging/immersive gameplay balance and/or to be closer to older Fallout games when appropriate, etc.
- Dark and bleak horror atmosphere: emphasis on reduced visibility via lethal, polluted weathers and pure dark nights; zombies roaming anywhere/invading at night; "survival horror" design inspiration (constant tension due to player vulnerability, low resources, limited saving, etc.); completely overhauled sound design and visual atmosphere (borrowing heavily from STALKER); "goofy" Fallout 4 elements have been eliminated/replaced or revised/toned down when appropriate (for tonal consistency), etc.
- Lethal and tactical combat: a single bullet can kill; enemies AI can ambush, hunt you down, sneak up on you, flank, take cover, investigate, heal, detect light, coordinate in groups and call for backup, dynamically switch weapons based on range, but can also get intimidated, retreat, panic, flee from combat, be lured or distracted, etc.; long-range recon and CQB tactics are critical for surviving, stealth, night-time assaults and ordering/coordinating companions are essential, weapon/gear/meds preparation and stamina management as well; in-depth medical/injury system (bleed and pain); limb injuries causing limping or getting disarmed/disarming enemies, live dismemberment, etc.
- Deeper survival mechanics and improved exploration: emphasis on hobo-phase scavenging for scarce resources while dealing with near-constant threat of rad poisoning; constant struggle for resources and tough trade-offs between the different systems like radioactive weathers and darkness define the gameplay balance/loop, incentivize thoughtful planning, decision-making and micro-managing, but will also inevitably push the player into reckless, improvise-on-the-fly situations and survive-at-all-costs, morally questionable behavior (eg. while desperate for meds to prevent bleedout or treat rads, becoming a thief or abusing addictive substances become tempting, practical paths to survival but come with their consequences); the world is more interactive (hunting for meat, more explorable locations, more loot interactions, etc.), logical (valuables have already been looted by others, are hidden in less obvious stashes or behind locks) yet less rewarding (most containers are empty/most loot is worthless, harsher economy), etc.
- Lived-in world and dynamic encounters: replicating STALKER's A-Life system with unpredictable, emergent gameplay; different factions will often fight each other in the distance; richer NPC scenarios and behaviors like traveling NPCs, random encounters, random Vertibird patrols, stalker enemies who can hunt you down anywhere and even invade your safehouses, NPCs have varying skillsets based on their factions, some factions won't instantly be hostile but be cautious of your behavior, etc.; improved attention to details and environmental storytelling making the world feel more credible and less shallow, etc.
- New adventures: lots of additional locations and quests, including a complete re-creation of the Zone from STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, interconnected networks of underground tunnels inspired by Metro 2033, etc.
Additional tips/settings to improve the experience:
- No pistol start / start at night outside Vault 111; drop all starting gear and advance time via GCM
- No fast travel; use subways or must find and fix up the motorcycle and keep it fueled
- No immediate rushing to Concord Museum to collect easy starter loot
- Saving is limited in the world but illimited in hideouts, I set up backup auto-saves in case of crashes, but if I die I can only reload a manual save; no reloading in case of fuck ups, must deal with consequences
- Only using Dogmeat as companion (excluding specific quest requirements); allowed a single revive in combat but must continue alone if he gets downed a second time (needs rest to recover from injuries)
- Compass is only used to track Dogmeat's position but all other markers are disabled; need to rely on spatial awareness, landmarks and the map for anything else
- Settlement building was originally 99% disabled, re-enabled it but keeping it minimal and practical, more focused on staying alone, fortifying hideouts (to deal with stalkers and night-time zombie invasions) and building underground bunkers (to deal with radioactive weathers)
- Using MAIM Lite for the first few hours then switching to MAIM Full
- Live Dismemberment re-enabled via MAIM; weapons been tweaked via FO4Edit so shotguns, explosives or machetes can dismember but handguns, rifles or blunt melee weapons can't, etc.
- Jump height has been slightly increased via GCM to make boxes climbable and vertical gameplay more viable outside of combat due to lack of native climbing options; but to counter-balance this in combat, jumping now consumes stamina
- XP gain has been massively reduced via GCM, progression is much slower, makes specializing and learning new Perks a meaningful choice
- Barter economy made much harsher via GCM ; must ignore early traders with generous caps and restocks
- No cheesing, no abusing overpowered or abundant loot, if I find out-of-place generous loot caused by an unbalanced mod, I drop or ignore it
- Flashlight consumes fusion cells (scarce or expensive) and emits a bit of radiation if out of cells or kept on too long; use torch, flares or chemlights as alternative light sources depending on situations
Install
While the modlist has been deleted from Wabbajack, it might still be possible to install it with this backup of the modlist files (backup) (will NOT be compatible with the Next-Gen Update, downgrade required). Put the content in Wabbajack's downloaded_mod_lists folder and then select "install\load from disk" via Wabbajack (untested method from Reddit). Hopefully this works so custom patches, MCM settings and load order are preserved. Let me know if this method works or if some files have been deleted from Nexus and I'll try to reupload.

Ultimate Hacking 4.4 Lets you immediately interact with terminals of all levels regardless of your Hacker level but terminals are now considerably harder, you only get a single guess by default and terminals now have a tougher security system detecting intrusions; leveling up Hacker perk reduces hacking difficulty by giving you more guesses; taking Mentats chems helps with hacking like in the older games by giving you extra guesses; turns Mentats into meaningful tool items (very scarce or expensive)

Looted World 3.0.1 Reduces or replaces the static loot items placed in the world to make it feel more immersive and logical, instead of valuable pre-war items remaining untouched for 200 years it'll feel like everything has already been scavenged but you'll find recent hidden raider stashes, etc.
Lootable Cars Adds small chances of finding a bit of pre-war junk loot in abandoned vehicles

Polluted Climate Harsher weathers, more frequent radioactive storms that deal more rad damage, reduced visibility, etc.

RADS Adds many random pockets of radiation all over the map (a bit like STALKER anomalies)
Fallout 2287 Gas Masks of the Wasteland Various presets to turn the air radioactive during different weather types (not just Radstorms but also regular rain, or at any time on the surface like in Metro 2033). Gas masks protect from radioactive weather but require you to find/craft and manually replace filters before they run out, immersive goggles overlay accumulates blood or rain that has to be manually wiped off, masks can be destroyed in combat, NPCs also equip masks. All these radiation overhaul mods compliment each others nicely to make the post-apocalyptic wasteland feel harsh and dangerous
Basement Living + Basement Living - Immersion adjustment With more radioactive weathers and antirad medication being made much scarcer, you will need to seek shelter underground or in Interior Cells (rooms separated from the Open World by a loading screen; hiding inside buildings that exist within the open world reduce but do not eliminate rad exposure). This mod lets you build safe underground bunkers in Settlement locations
[Weather_Report_1.042] Gives you a status report on the current weather. Because of the way Interior Cells and the Open World function, while you're inside an interior, there is no way to know about the weather changing outside (only gets triggered when you re-enter the Open World), this bypasses the issue by randomly picking a weather and forcing it when you exit, some of the reports are purposefully meant to be unreliable (only available on GreslinGames Discord)
Handheld Geiger Counter Handheld Geiger counter item that lets you manually check rad damage, disables vanilla rad warning sound if not equipped
Immersive Radiation Overhauls the radiation system to be more like in the older games, separate from the health bar, instead of health bar penalty, rad exposure deals progressive stats debuffs, >80% rad poisoining starts dealing constant damage if untreated
Enjoy The Darkness Turns the flashlight into a limited ressource, can overheat and consume fusion cells as batteries, will switch off and emit radiation if overheating or out of batteries. Compliments nicely with additional flares and chemlights mods.
[LW_Useful_Alcohol] Custom patch to make alcohol remove a bit of radiation, risks of hangover and addiction debuffs
Smokeable Cigars - Cigarettes - Joints Adds useful smoking consumables and turns them into a source of limited saving in Survival Mode but cannot be used mid-combat, risks of debuffs, addiction, etc.
Resident Evil Saferooms 3.1 Adds the typewriter/ink ribbon limited save system from Resident Evil as another Survival save option, ink ribbons can be crafted with rare material
Campsite + Campsite SMM Menu Patch Camping mod: adds craftable tent, campfires, sleeping bags... sleeping anywhere can be useful for saving in Survival but poor sleep quality will lead to illness and sleeping outside won't protect you from dangers like radioactive weather. Also lets you craft a tracking beacon to mark your stashes
Hunter of the Commonwealth 1.7.1 + Mutant Menagerie Hunter Patch Hunting mod: lets you butcher animals for meat and skin, time passes, quality of blade used matters
Flashy - Commonwealth Fishing Fishing mod: lets you craft a fishing rod but you have to stand in the water to fish, meaning radiation exposure
Far Harbor Steaks Adds basic cooking recipes for DLC meats that couldn't be cooked on their own
Enemies & NPC
[PANPC_2.0.13-stable] + [PANPC Lost World Patch] Major overhaul of enemy AI system meant to create more complex and varied combat situations, NPCs use social feedback and group tactics (cover, flanking, ambushes...), take less risks, investigate suspect situations, respond differently based on player distance and range of attack, have dynamic Courage/Coward behavior based on how situations evolve, get affected by bad weather, form raiding parties to hunt you down outside of active combat, etc. Also includes new combat tools like throwables to distract NPCs (not on Nexus, has to be downloaded from GreslinGames Discord)
4estGimp - AI Edits Crippled LMCC Tweaks enemy AI values but not behavior, meant to be more challenging, compliments PANPC (detection distance or sound/light conditions matter more than sneaking stats, remain on alert and search for you longer, etc.)
Search and Destroy Alerted enemies will increase their search radius and remain on alert for longer (redundant with above?)
Flashlight Stealth Fix 1.0 Enemies are able to detect you when using the flashlight mod
NPC Accuracy Revised Logically changes NPC accuracy based on their factions/levels, drugged up raiders are less accurate than trained BoS soldiers, etc.
NPCs Travel Adds over 300 NPCs, both friendly (traders) and hostile (factions/creatures) who randomly travel across the map to make the world feel more alive
SKK Combat Stalkers_26.1 Adds random enemy stalkers who can sneak up on you and hunt you down anywhere on the map to make the world feel more dangerous and dynamic; optionally they can also invade you in interiors/your safehouses so nowhere is truly safe; that can also include random Vertibird patrols (SKK Stalkers corpses seem unaffected by scarcer loot)
SKK Dynamic Timescale_009 Slows down timescale while in Workshop mode; used by SKK Stalkers as a workaround so you don't get raided while building stuff
SKK Random Encounter Manager 012 Customize friendly/enemy spawns with random encounters options
SKK Replace Any Actor with Any Actor + [LW SKK Actor Replacement Custom List STALKER] Customize friendly/enemy spawns by replacing any actor with any other actor
Mutant Menagerie - Big Game Hunting - 1.4 + Mutant Menagerie - SCOURGE Patch 1.0 Adds ~30 new mutant creatures and brings DLC creatures into the main game
Institute Centaurs Adds a new enemy based on FO4 cut content
Nightstrikers Add a new enemy based on FO:NV, including a cloaked/invisible variants (like STALKER's Bloodsuckers)

SCOURGE Removes NPC scaling; overhauls NPC stats and standardises health values to give every NPC credible vulnerability, turning the game into a realistic shooter instead of a bullet spongey RPG
Unleveled World Removes World scaling; level-gated NPCs and items can now appear at any time instead of waiting for you to level up, the world doesn't revolve around your level anymore
Encounter Zone Recalculation Removes Encounter Zone scaling
True Damage + Lootable Cars Exiguous Explode Patch Re-balances firearm damage values to remove magical RPG stats discrepancies between weapons to make them more realistic, achieved by nerfing weapons damage stats and instead applies it to ammo types (damage output now comes 90% from ammo + 10% from the weapon; meaning a weapon's damage stats still matter but to a much lesser degree)
