Fourth (Official) Clover Guild Character Q&A

Warning: Please write all entries into a text editor, refresh the page, then COPY and PASTE into this rentry page to avoid overwriting others' entries.

The rules are the same as in the previous Q&As: ask a question to a character in the Clover Guild universe (guildmember, NPC, etc.), and then the anons may answer it in character. Keep that in mind if they skipped over it; please show common courtesy.

Asking
When asking a question to a new character, write three pound signs (#) followed by the character name. That way, they'll appear in the table of contents.
Add new questions to the end of the list. Questions should have a Q1, Q2, Q3, etc. in front, based on which number the question is.

Answering
Answers should be provided in green text (>) below the question.
Please put your character's name in front if answering a non-individual question.
You can even have discussions on the answered questions. For example:

Dungeons?

Character 1: Apple Woods is the best dungeon!
Character 2: I prefer Great Canyon!

Character 3: I got wiped there...

Character 2: Should've gummimaxxed.

Categories
"Individual Questions" means you're asking a question to a particular character... self explanatory.

"General Questions" means anyone can answer that particular question, or it's a particular group of people like former humans who can answer this question only, and so on.

"Pair Questions" is something different from general questions. These are aimed at a particular team, or a category of character. For example, you can ask a question to Team Petal-Purr, and each of the members will answer based on what they think about the question (in character, of course). It can also apply to specific groups, like eeveelutions. (in this example, eeveelution characters like Adrian, Pirth, Beau, etc. would answer).

"Lore and Misc Questions" are questions about some lore about some characters, world building, and other questions about Clover Guild that aren't applicable to the things above. You may even ask questions to the authors themselves! (When doing this, write it as Chespin-anon to indicate it's the author, and use Chespin for character himself, to not cause any confusion.)

Individual Questions

Beda

Q1: How often do you lick your paws?

I lick them semi-frequently when in a dungeon, sorta. I like the taste of them, but not all of the time. I'd probably wane on licking them too regularly the more time goes on. Eventually you just get tired of it being the same thing all of the time even if it's something you like, you know?

Q2: Do you wish your paws leaked something other than Vegemite?

N-Not really. It's annoying they leak anything at all but at least the feral mons don't seem to like Vegemite as much. If it were something more sweeter, it would probably get overwhelming.

Parora

Q1: How fast can you move when you're flopping around on land?

Pretty fast! I'd still say someone using, say, Quick Attack would definitely outspeed me, so I'm not ridiculously fast, but you'd be surprised how often I get remarks at something I 'shouldn't' be able to do based on what I am. I'd say I'm above-average, just to wager a guess.

Bill

Q1: Do you regret becoming the counselor for the Clover Guild?
Q2: Considering your heightened sense of smell, who are the best and worst smelling guildmembers?
Q3: What is the most "out there" therapy tactic you've tried on a guildmember?

Q2: What's inside your bulb?

Shelby

Q1: Have you enjoyed training with Sneasel? Got any funny stories from your lessons?

Heidi

Q1: Have you ever wanted to perform a duet with another singer, or do you prefer singing solo?

Booker

Q1: Which guildmember's flowers do you find the most enticing?

E-enticing? It feels odd to use that word to describe my guildmates, but I definitely do feel drawn to Sunny and Bellossom’s flowers. Not Vileplume’s, though... I don’t want to be rude, b-but it certainly doesn’t smell pleasant. He is a talking rafflesia, after all. But at least he doesn’t smell anywhere near as bad as the real thing. I once found one in a jungle dungeon and it n-nearly knocked me out...
Sunny’s flowers smell nice, but I don’t like them as much as Bellossom’s. I-I assume it’s because Ribombee doesn’t live anywhere near the desert, so they didn’t adapt to appreciate Maractus flowers. Bellossom’s flowers, despite resembling a rafflesia themselves, look so pretty and have such a soft, fragrant aroma. I haven’t spent much time with her, but when I do, I always f-feel at ease because of her flowers. I, um... just hope she doesn’t think it’s w-weird for me to say those kinds of things about her.

Q2: What's your favorite plants OTHER than flowers?

I think I’d have to say... peach trees. I-I know they grow flowers too, but overall, the tree is special to me and brings back memories. I always liked peaches, as did my whole family. My home state of Georgia is the Peach State, after all—even though California grows the most peaches. And then we ended up moving to California, and c-close to a peach farm at that. We even tried growing our own tree in our backyard, after getting seeds from that farm, but it didn’t grow properly. So... in a way, peaches have always been a part of my life. I’m g-glad Ribombee’s diet includes fruit like peaches, so I can still appreciate them.

Q3: Are you light enough to skate on water? Have you ever tried it?

I am very lightweight, but... Ribombee isn’t designed to walk on water, so I never tried it. I know I’d just sink, and I r-really don’t want to get wet... Even being on a boat or r-riding an aquatic Pokemon makes me anxious...

Q4: Have you ever molted? What did you do with the shed skin afterwards?

Sneasel

Q1: Do you ever wish you could use Minimize like Ross did so you could become Booker's size?

Totally! I wish I could change my size between Sneasel and Ribombee whenever I wanted. It’d be fun to spar with Booker when we’re the same size. I always thought Ross was lucky that he got the chance to do it. And being small means all the food would be huge! I could eat as much sorbet as I wanted and I’d never run out.
Also, being Booker-sized would give me and him a new thing to bond over. I’m sure he would appreciate us seeing each other eye to eye—literally, heh. He almost never complains about us being so different in size, but... not long ago, he was kinda bummed about how he doesn’t really have any tiny friends who can, like, empathize with him. I wished I could help him out there, but there ain’t nothing I can do. If I could become his size and be there for him, I’d do that in a heartbeat. Also, uh... don’t tell anyone I said something as sappy as this, but I wish I could try hugging him when we’re the same size, just to see how it feels.
Of course, I wouldn’t wanna be tiny forever—that’d suck, honestly. I still remember that time when we visited that Smeargle’s body swapping shop. That was a crazy couple days. Cool experience, but I definitely prefer being Sneasel-sized.

Q2: You've probably heard about a bunch of different human warriors and martial arts, which sound the coolest to you?

Ever since the humans told me about ninjas, I wanna be one! Sneaking around and striking from the shadows, tossing all those throwing stars and knives, doing cool poses, running with your arms behind your back, shouting “believe it!”—it sounds like it’d be a lotta fun! Only problem is that I don’t think an orange jumpsuit would look good on me.
...Wait, why are you laughing? W-what do you mean that’s not what ninjas were really like? Augh, why do you humans keep tricking me?!

Q3: How do you keep your claws sharp?

I just scratch stuff. It works by flaking off the dull outer layer of my claws, and the next layer is sharper. Softer stuff works best—I usually do it on wood, but I can use rope or other stuff too. If you check out the forest next to the guild, you’ll probably see a bunch of random scratches on the trees here and there. A lot of those are from me. I also, uh, scratched the walls of the lounge once when my claws were itchy. The marks are still there. But I got caught doing it, so I never did that again... or did I? Maybe there’s another scratch hidden behind some furniture somewhere, hehe...
By the way, in the tribe, we’d use something called whetwood. You know about whetstones, right? Whetwood is the same kinda thing. It’s a chunk of wood we keep at home or carry around, and use to keep our claws sharp. I’ve got a few pieces in the dorm, and I put one in the bag when we go on a long trip. And in case you’re wondering, whetstones don’t work so well on my claws. Sharpening my claws isn’t like sharpening a blade. Booker got me a whetstone one time, thinking it’d help me, but whetwood works better. He got me a chunk of wood the next day to make up for it, and that was nice of him.

Q4: What is the most underhanded tactic you've used to win a fight?

Buoy

Q1: Do you wish you had just one tail instead of two?

Cheris

Q1: Do you ever feel an urge to hunt your guildmates, or at least wrap them up in webs?

There is no time to hunt! It has too many orders to attend to! Many guild-scarves with holes torn and burned! Surface dwellers do not look where they are going. Two moons ago, a small fly was caught in the tapestry. It struggled, and started to scream! It lost precious time untangling the fly, and was threatened at clawpoint by its mother.

Q2: Is Cheri your favorite berry?

It can no longer stand even the smell of the red ones! Its silk was red for three days after it came to the guild. The silk was not useful for anything, and could not even be recycled without tasting the horrible spiciness of the red berries!

Chespin

Q2: Snover: friend or foe?

General Questions

Q.1: What's the worst thing the substitute doll in the storage room has seen?

Sneasel: I don’t even wanna think about it. I’m gonna skip that one.

Booker: I w-want to believe nothing too bad has happened in the storeroom...

Testa: I heard that alchemist gets up to some shenanigans down there in his lab. Sounds fun, but I bet some weirdness has spilled over into the storeroom.

Cooper: Well, I c-can’t answer that question... But personally, the worst thing that happened to me in that room was the time I was struggling to get some items, and ended up knocking down a whole shelf. Toge rushed into the room as if the noise was a beacon, and he chewed me out for what felt like an hour. Hopefully the doll hasn’t seen anything worse than Toge going ballistic...

Q.2: What battle gimmick would you like to give a try (if any)?

Sneasel: I wanna try them all! Turning into a more powerful form with Mega Evolution would be so cool. If a Mega Sneasel or Weavile existed, I bet it’d be the best Mega ever! As for Dynamax, it‘d definitely be fun to be giant and use extra-strong attacks, but I prefer being quick and agile, so it probably isn’t for me. Besides, I already get to feel like a giant around Booker, so I can get my fix that way. And I also dunno how I feel about that Terastal stuff. Changing your type sounds too strategic for me. Gotta think about how your matchups change, and which moves get stronger... I prefer sticking with my good ol’ Dark/Ice typing. So overall, I think I’d have to pick Z Moves. Yeah, it’s not the most interesting—just a single move that’s extra strong—but it’d be fun to pull off a cool pose before launching a super-awesome attack, and I also like the idea of sharing power with Booker to do it. That’s how it works, right? Gotta team up with someone else to get the full effect? I wanna see how strong the move would be if the two of us worked together on it.

Booker: I-I agree it would be interesting to try a Z Move together. But... I probably wouldn’t want to use a Z Move or Mega Evolution for myself. I’m n-not much of a fighter, so I couldn’t make the most of either technique. Dynamax is similar. I’ve actually tried Dynamaxing before, believe it or not... and no, c-contrary to what you might think, I didn’t grow to only a couple feet tall. I actually became giant, just like other Dynamax Pokemon, d-despite starting out a lot smaller than most Pokemon. And it wasn’t a fun experience. It was so different from my normal stature, and it was in-incredibly bizarre to tower over everything and feel so... weighty. Also, even though we were in a dungeon and n-nobody but ferals were with us, I hated feeling like the center of attention. Sneasel found it amusing, though, so th-that’s one good thing about it, I suppose. But I don’t see myself Dynamaxing again anytime soon. A-anyway, to answer the question, I’d definitely choose to use Terastal. I actually think that’s the p-perfect option for me. Sneasel and I share three weaknesses, a-and that’s always been a big problem for us. If I could change my type, that would be an amazing benefit for us both.

Testa: Tough choice! They’ve all got their uses. I know I could actually Mega Evolve if I became a Blastoise, and I’ve always kinda wondered what that would be like, but I’m never gonna evolve for... reasons. Terastal seems cool, and I’d love to do a Z Move with Cooper’s support. But in the end, I think I’d prefer to use Dynamax. It’d be a cool experience, and being so big means I could block even more attacks and protect my friends even better. Plus, I wanna try giving Cooper a hug when I’m all big and he’s like a cute little doll! I’ve hugged Booker plenty of times before, but it just isn’t the same as hugging my partner.

Cooper: Um… if you do that, p-please ask permission before hugging me. But going back to the question... All four options are appealing. I’m a fighter, and I like to believe I’m good at it, so each one would have its uses for me. Becoming big and powerful, using a single ultra-strong move, changing into a different form... But in the end, I think I’d choose Terastal. Changing my type could open up new strategies for battle, and I already know a variety of moves, so the option to empower one of them would be very helpful.

Q.3: Share a lifehack for Capim or the guild building!

Elm: "The best time to buy chilled stuff like cakes it around the store's closing time since you can get stuff at a discount! Yeah this world has some rudimentary cooling systems with Pokémon being able to use Ice moves, but I guess most shops prefer to get rid of leftovers instead of spending the night using Ice Beam on an insulated box at regular intervals."

Q.4: For humans only: Guild members frequently need to travel around to complete jobs. How often did you travel as a human?

Cooper: Not very much, to be honest.

Booker: Right. W-we were born in Georgia, and moved to California when we were young. But a-aside from that, and some family vacations here and there, we mostly stayed at home or in our town.

Cooper: After coming to the Pokemon world, it was initially difficult for me to travel around. I was so... unaccustomed to it. And I hated to leave my comfort zone. I just wanted to stay in the Square and find something to do there instead of going to the wilderness and dungeons. I remember Testa had to literally drag me out of the house sometimes. But I got more comfortable with it over time.

Booker: I had the same kind of experiences. And I also feel better about traveling now. E-everything gets easier with repetition and familiarity. Inertia is a powerful thing.

Q.5: How would you feel if you were shiny? And for shinies, how would you feel if you weren't?

Sneasel: Ew. Hot pink and yellow? That’s, like, the opposite of cool. Gimme gray and red any day. And those blue gems are just... weird. They’re supposed to be gold—anything different just feels so wrong. Seriously, I always hated how my shiny form looked. I totally woulda bullied any shinies in my tribe. Good thing we didn’t have any!

Booker: I’m p-perfectly fine with my current coloration. I already look more feminine than I’d like... Becoming pink w-wouldn’t help matters. That said, I-I always liked how a shiny Ribombee looks. I always thought the red scarf pairs nicely with the pink setae...

Testa: So, my shell turns green and I get sparkly, huh? I wouldn’t mind having a green shell. Green is a nice color—makes me think of Cooper’s headband. But if it’s bundled with the sparkles... I dunno. The sparkling would be pretty at first, but I also feel like it’d get kinda annoying before long. So I’d probably like to be shiny, but only if I don’t get covered in glitter too.

Cooper: As far as I know, the orange and yellow sections of a shiny Torchic swap places, so it’s mainly yellow with an orange ruff and crest. I’d be okay with that coloration. It’s not a very drastic change. I prefer orange over yellow, though, because it’s less bright. But like Testa, I wouldn’t like to be sparkly. And also, being a shiny means I’d draw much more attention, and I, uh... I d-definitely don’t want that. So in the end, I prefer being normal-colored for a Torchic.

Q.6: If you could choose, is there a different pokemon you'd rather be?

Sneasel: I wanna be a Weavile someday! Someday soon, hopefully. It’d be so cool to be taller and stronger! One problem, though... I might’ve talked about it before, but there’s a specific way we’re supposed to evolve in the tribe. When a Weavile dies, a couple of their claws get taken off and put in a shrine, and little bits of their soul stay in each claw. When a Sneasel’s ready to evolve, they go to the shrine and find the claw that calls to them, and they use it to evolve. Then the soul inside the claw will watch over them like a guardian for the rest of their life. So I don’t wanna just get any old Razor Claw. I wanna do the ritual and use a claw from a tribemate. But to do that, first I gotta find a way back home...

Booker: I should probably make a list about this topic someday... Becoming a Ribombee brought me a lot of p-problems and challenges, and there are countless species that would have made life easier for me. I’m grateful I kept my humanoid shape, at least, and being able to fly... e-eventually... was wonderful. But this tiny size took a long time to get used to. At first, I certainly would have preferred being a normal-sized humanoid species instead of this. I’m not particularly picky, but I like my Aura powers, so Riolu would have been a great choice... D-did I just hear someone groan? A-anyway, at this point in my life, I’d have to say that I’m comfortable being a Ribombee. It was hard at first, but now, I can’t see myself as any other species. E-except a human, of course! I still hold on to that part of me. I’ll never forget my human past.

Testa: Sometimes I wonder what it’d be like if I was fast and nimble. It’s fun to move quickly, like when I’m riding on a cart or carried in a bird’s basket—or when I get in my shell and Cooper kicks me around. But I definitely can’t complain about being a Squirtle. I’m totally fine with my current species. That said, I always wanted to be a Blastoise. If I could snap my fingers and turn into a Blastoise, I’d love that! But I can’t. I gotta go through the Wartortle stage first, and I... I don’t wanna do that. So I’m cool with being a Squirtle. It’s the next best thing.

Cooper: I miss my hands. I miss them a lot. Even now, I find myself wishing I was turned into something with hands. And I know I could get them back if I evolved, but... Testa and I made a vow. And there are some perks to being a Torchic, so I’m fine remaining in this form. I can tolerate my lack of hands. Still, if I had the option to choose what species I turned into at the beginning of all this, I would have chosen something other than Torchic. As for what species I would pick... After spending so long as a Fire-type, I can’t see myself as any other type, so I’d probably choose... S-Scorbunny. I like being fast, and I’d prefer to be a mammal because that’s the same type of animal as a human, of course. The transition from mammal to bird was, um... a challenge.

Q.7: You get a TM of any move you could want. What do you pick and why?

Pair Questions

Team Cozy

Q.1: What would you use for bedding if you had no access to cotton or proper beds?

Chespin: "A bed of soft soil and nice-smelling flowers would be what I'd try to go for. Something about it just feels right to me. That or I'd shear Macom for wool.
Wooper: "I'm okay with a small pond with a muddy bottom, it's how I slept for most of my life, after all!"

Team Petal-Purr

Q1: What activities do you do together when you're not working?
Q2: Have Blossom and Shelby considered wearing flowers like Heidi does?
Q3: Why are you all so cute?

Team Fangclaw

Q1: How would you feel if your species were swapped?

Team Brave

Q1: What did you two think of each other's outfits during the cuteness competition back in the summer festival? Have you two ever worn outfits like those again?

Sneasel: I remember that contest. Yeah, Booker’s bow tie was kinda silly. Looked too big for him. But no surprise there, heh. I prefer his normal clothes—especially since he added the cloak. It’s a cool outfit.

Booker: Thanks. Um... as for you Sneasel, t-to be honest, I thought you looked p-pretty nice in that dress.

Sneasel: Sh-shut up.

Booker: I can see you blushing—

Sneasel: SHUT UP.

Booker: W-well, how about we answer the second half of the question now? I haven’t worn a bow tie since that day. It was a bit uncomfortable. Wearing things around my neck is t-tricky because of this big, built-in fluffy scarf. And as for Sneasel... sh-she actually did wear a dress one other—

Sneasel: Don’t you dare.

Booker: S-sorry. Maybe it’s best to keep it between us.

Bill and Gill

Q1: Who wins more sparring sessions? Do you two ever face off in non-combat challenges, like games?

Lore and Misc Questions

Q1: Do you have a concrete idea about what your humon character looked like when they were a human?

Elm-anon: Just some details, but nothing concrete.

Ribombee-anon: Not really. I named my character Booker as a play on bookworm (since he’s a bug and a nerd), but that name is historically closely associated with black people, and he comes from Georgia, where 33% of the population is black. So I’ve been wondering for a while if I should say that Booker was black as a human. However, his human appearance has never been relevant in any stories, so I prefer to keep it vague and not go into details about the way he looked as a human. As far as I can recall, the only canon information I’ve provided about his human appearance is that he was taller than average. Aside from that, imagine what you will.

Beda-anon: Not yet. I will eventually, I never like having a human character in the body of an animal without an idea for what they looked like. It'll happen.

Q2: How did you decide on the outfits your characters wear? Do you want to update their outfits at some point?

Elm-anon: I decided on the purple headband very early since I like purple, while the pouch idea came from me wondering how a Duskull's round body could wear a bag. There is one detail on the headband that I decided to simplify for the final design since it would be more work to draw, but I might implement that in the future.

Ribombee-anon: I’ll go through them one by one.
Booker’s original outfit was born out of necessity. His built-in scarf makes it hard to wear a standard explorer neckscarf, so I instead gave him a waist cape attached to a belt. I made the belt buckle look like a clover badge, since he had to have a badge somewhere. Later, I added a cloak because cloaks are cool. But it also has a function, since it’s a special cloak that lets him tolerate heat and cold, which solves a recurring weakness of his insect form.
I initially gave Sneasel a default PMD outfit: a bandanna and nothing else (aside from a belt with pouches, because it makes sense to have some storage space). I eventually turned the bandanna into an armband and gave her a scarf. It went through multiple colors until I settled on white, since it seemed to work the best with the rest of her color scheme.
For Testa, I also gave her a simple classic bandanna. For Cooper, I gave him a headband, which was inspired by a piece of official PMD art with a Torchic wearing a bandanna tied around its crest. The red and green colors are based on the colors used for Squirtle and Torchic in RTDX. I eventually updated their outfits to add a bit more detail: Testa’s bandanna now has white markings and Cooper’s bandanna has yellow ones, and they wear Looplets too.
In all four cases, the changes to their outfits were done either make them look a bit more unique, represent character growth, or tie into stories (Sneasel’s scarf was introduced in “A Midwinter Feud”, for example). I have no plans to update the outfits further, but if Sneasel becomes a Weavile, I might make her wear the scarf as a sash because it looks awkward if she wears it over her frill.

Beda-anon: They're not wearing anything yet. I do want to give them their exclusive items from Explorers though at some point, and not just because I'm angry I never really knew about their benefits as a kid definitely not.

Q3: If possible, do you plan to make your characters evolve at some point?

Elm-anon: Very unlikely unless it is for some kind of epilogue story. Also, I don't like Dusclops.

Ribombee-anon: I originally planned to write a series of stories involving Sneasel evolving, but at this point, I’m confident that I’ll never get around to writing them. My original idea was something like this: Team Brave rediscovers Sneasel’s home of Elderfrost Island, and they go there. During their stay, Sneasel’s father is killed somehow, and she uses one of his claws as a Razor Claw to evolve into a Weavile. That way, his spirit will always be with her.
As for Team Buckler, I had a story draft explaining why they chose not to evolve, but I might never publish that either. Because of that, I’ll put the reason here: Testa is terrified of the possibility that something will go wrong when she evolves, and she’ll be stuck as a Wartortle, unable to proceed to Blastoise. Wartortle lives for an extremely long time, so she’d be trapped in an undying body as all her friends and loved ones die around her. For that reason, she chooses not to evolve, and Cooper respects her choice and decides to remain unevolved alongside her.
And as a bonus: if Booker started out as a Cutiefly, I definitely would have made him evolve at some point. I prefer Ribombee over Cutiefly, and I think it would be easier to write a Ribombee than a Cutiefly.

Beda-anon: Hahahahaha no, it's not happening. I tend to like small and cute Pokemon so they will stay as such.

Q4: Other than your own characters, which guildmembers do you find the most fun to draw/write?
