Bubby Variant Guide Part 2: Subvarients and Oddities~

~Intro~

Bubbies are very complicated creatures this has resulted in a few Subvariants that are too similar to be considered their own variant as well as some other oddities observed in Bubbies.

~What causes Bubbies to vary so much?~

Bubbies are believed to be descendants of a gorilla that became corrupted with eagle DNA. The resulting eggs were too weak to hatch on their own but due to the unstable DNA, they were able to combine with nearby plant seeds. Because of this plants are not necessarily the only things unhatched Bubbies could fuse with, anything that can penetrate the Bubby's egg which isn't trying to eat it and doesn't fight the fusion process could cause a Bubby to be born. This has led to things like coral and other plant-like animals creating Bubbies.

~Fungal Sub-variant 1~

Slime mold Bubbies are a sub-variant of Fungal Bubbies. They are much smaller than fungal Bubbies and live in bigger communities. Slime mold when entering a Bubby egg triggers more than one baby to hatch from the egg. The hatchlings are very close and often know what the other is thinking although they can fight it is rare. Slime mold Bubbies seek out other slime mold Bubbies with the same type of slime mold as them. Slime mold Bubbies are even less picky than normal fungal Bubbies eating anything they can get ahold of even if it is rotting. They have insanely strong beaks letting them eat bones and tree bark. They are the most docile Bubby variant but must be kept in groups of 5 or more slime mold Bubbies with the same type of slime mold. This is difficult for most people as they are very rare so it would be near impossible to find 5 of the same type for the average person. Slime mold Bubbies are only males this has been determined to be because female Bubby eggs reject the slime mold as they would be too small to lay eggs safely. Most slime mold Bubbies just adopted abandoned/orphaned hatchlings and eggs though some convinced standard fungal Bubbies to mate with them.

~Fungal Sub variant 2~

Cordyceps Bubbies are the rarest time of Bubby as they are deemed so dangerous by other Bubbies that even normally passive Fungals will kill them at birth. Cordyceps Bubbies are very aggressive hunters, unlike the passive nature of other Fungal Bubbies. The way they hunt is very cruel as they take control of their prey's body using fungal spores. Then the prey who is still aware but unable to fight goes to the Bubby and is often eaten while still alive. They can take down prey much bigger than them even a few humans have fallen victim. Luckily most folk can fight off the infection but the young, sick, and elderly must be checked if suspected exposure has occurred as they may not be able to fight the infection without medicine. Cordyceps Bubbies have no visual plant however some will wear fake plants to lure prey close enough to them. While fungal Bubbies are immune to the spores other Bubbies are not and cordyceps Bubbies will hunt and kill them without hesitation. Cordyceps Bubbies show no interest in mating instead they steal eggs from other Bubbies which they implant their spores into. The first meal of stolen eggs is often a sibling or a parent the cordyceps Bubby captures to feed the hatchling. Despite their violent behavior cordyceps Bubbies are social and will sometimes control other Bubbies due to loneliness because of this experience Bubby owners could own one as a pet although it is inherently dangerous. Some fungal Bubbies will welcome a cordyceps Bubby into their colony if they are experiencing severe pressure from predators, cordyceps Bubbies do not pose a threat to them but their predators can easily be taken care of by the cordyceps Bubby. Cordyceps Bubbies have dark colored eyes.

~Semi-aquatic variant~

Sometimes semi-aquatic Bubby eggs end up abandoned or orphaned. When this happens sometimes aquatic life forms like coral may attach to the egg fusing with it causing it to hatch. Because coral and similar can't survive on land these Bubbies never leave the water. Aquatic Bubbies rarely mate instead they adopt any Aquatic hatchlings they find. One aquatic Bubbies was documented to have 13 young in their care none of which were even related to them and 3 of them were semi-aquatic Bubbies that were orphaned. Semi-Aquatic Bubbies respect aquatic Bubbies a lot and will regularly leave their young in their care when the parents leave to hunt. Aquatic Bubbies are friendly but make terrible pets as they are very sensitive to changes in water quality and temperature. They also need a lot of space, only the most experienced people could hope to provide a good life for them.

~Aboral Bubbies~

Aboral Bubbies are not considered a variant but rather a breed as the Aboral trait is genetic and is not determined by their plants. Aboral Bubbies possess whatever traits their variant has but they also have prehensile tails making navigating tree tops easier. They tend not to hunt but rather eat bird eggs and fruit.

~Winged Bubbies~

Sometimes a genetic error occurs resulting in a Bubby being born with wings. Despite having wings these Bubbies rarely can fly without the aid of magic. These Bubbies are often frailer so they are seen as weak and ignored by most Bubbies. Most winged Bubbies find themself living as scavengers in fungal colonies. Wings are not genetic rather just a random mutation that can occur in any Bubby egg.

~Hybrids~

Due to their nature, Bubbies can reproduce with most living things as they are genetically unstable. Male Bubbies are unwilling to mate with non Bubbies but some female Bubbies will mate with non Bubby males that prove themself. The offspring will normally appear to be a Bubby but possess some traits of their father species. Many female Bubbies find Axelotls attractive due to the strength that species has however most Axelotls are uninterested in mating with Bubbies. Hakkito/Bubby hybrids are the most common as Hakkitos tend to interact with Bubbies a lot.

~Other oddities~

Because Bubbies are unstable random mutations are not unheared of. Bubbies have been seen without beaks, extra eyes, claws, bioluminescence, etc. These mutations have been seen so rarely that they have not been categorized and little is known about how they affect the life of any given Bubby.
