• Netflix advertised the movie as a "Girl meets... princess?" story, which is a direct parody of the usual "Girl meets Boy" tagline of romance movies
• Kaguya's VR outfit is a bunny girl, because bunnies are associated with the moon in Japanese mythology. She also wears a crescent moon hair piece and has a crescent moon cutout on her clothes.
• • The reason she uses a giant hammer is also because of the moon rabbit theme, which are known to pound mocchi with mallets on the moon.
• • Kaguya's eyes are supposed resemble bamboo shoots
• Iroha's Tsukuyomi outfit is a fox, because according to the director, she is cunning and lying to herself
• • It's also a reference to the Tamamizu legend, in which a fox falls love with a human princess and transforms into her maid to get close to her. The tale ends with them having to be separated
• • Allegedly the choice of fox and rabbit are also a reference to Disney's Zootopia, in which the main characters are the same animals
• Yachiyo's design is ocean themed, both in reference to her spaceship crashing in the ocean and the fact that Tsukuyomi is the god of the moon and the seas
• • The flapjack octopus on Yachiyo's chest is her symbol and sometimes mirrors Yachiyo's emotions directly (like crying when she cries). Even though it's only the English name, flapjack is a different word for pancakes
• • • Mendako octopi are also called "umbrella octopus" in Japan. Yachiyo pulls her umbrella out of the octopus a few times in the movie
• • Yachiyo's eyes show Mount Fuji, which is an essential part of the Kaguya myth
• During her first performance in the movie (Starry Seas) Yachiyo makes a fox sign with her hands for a blink-and-you-will-miss-it moment. Foreshadowing her connection to Iroha
  
• • The whole song Starry Seas is just Yachiyo's feelings about waiting for Iroha while also announcing the true beginning of the story
• During the performance of World is Mine at the collab concert, Yachiyo steals Kaguya's line that lets her flirt with Iroha, which on the full version of the song is actually sung by Kaguya. Obviously Kaguya gets jealous and that's why she wants to pull Iroha away from Yachiyo
• During their fireworks festival date Kaguya and Iroha wear matching flowers in their hair. These are bellflowers which represent Gratitude, Romance and Intimacy
• • They also have sunflowers on their yukata which are symbols of romance. Specifically 3 sunflowers mean intense overwhelming passionate love and 6 mean eternal love and an unbreakable bond. Each of them has 3 sunflowers on their yukata, so they have 6 combined
• After Kaguya is taken back to the moon Iroha goes around the appartment in a stupor, opening all the cupboards, which is a reference to Kaguya hiding in the original appartment's cupboard when Iroha thought she left
• The name Runami Yachiyo has a special meaning, where Yachiyo is a poetic way of saying 'forever' since it sounds like "8000 generations" or years and Runami is written with the kanji for Tsukimi which is moon viewing. Thus the name can be interpreted as a poetic whole and it is "8000 years gazing at the moon"
• When the Lunarians arrive for the final confrontation their leader reads the rules of KASSEN and they abide by the game rules, each getting three lives as displayed by the console with the three crescent moons. They also have 6 champions to face Iroha's group of 6, with their leader being a mirror figure to Kaguya on the castle
• In the final shot of the movie Tsukuyomi's full map is revealed. It looks like a giant pancake with a fork, strawberries and syrup on a plate

ray MV trivia:

• The true epilogue to the movie that shows flashes of what happens after the ending as well as some more roundabout symbolic content
• Kaguya in the MV wears a sun styled hairclip rather than her moon hairclip. Fans use thise as a way to differentiate post time skip Kaguya from the movie timeline
• • The sign for Tsukuyomi changes to Amaterasu (sun god) and instead of perpetual night, the world is covered in daylight. This goes along with the whole summer/beach theme of the live concert and Kaguya's new hairpiece
• • • It is possible that the concert is beach themed, because Roka and Mami promised to go to the beach again with Kaguya, even if it is now 10 years later. That's why they are back-up dancer in the concert
• In the MV Iroha and Kaguya climb Mount Fuji together and it is implied they bury Kaguya's spaceship on it. This is a reference to the Kaguya myth in which the Emperor buries all of Kaguya's gifts, the elixir of immortality and his love letter for her there and burns them so his feelings may reach her on the moon. He refused to take the elixir, because living eternally without Kaguya would be too heartbreaking
• • It is speculated that burying the spaceship which housed Kaguya's soul implies her soul was fully transfered into the android body, giving up Kaguya's "immortality" for love
• • • Kaguya speaks in the same manner as Yachiyo when they reach the mountain top, which is another way to show it's Yachiyo in the body. For some reason Kaguya also carries a phone around her neck that has the digital Yachiyo watching everything through the camera
• There is a shot of Iroha writing on her computer that she wants to turn Kaguya "completely human"
• During the concert Otako, the announcer, goes crazy when Iroha starts dancing with the others, as she has always been a background keytarist until now. Otako is also a huge Kaguya/Iro-P fangirl
• The MV shows several scenes that originally featured Yachiyo and instead shows Kaguya in her place. The moment where Iroha hugged her especially stands out as it shows Kaguya crying, while Yachiyo held in her true feelings during that scene
• During the lyrics "At the beginning of that path you were that light" it shows Kaguya jumping out of the telephone pole. Kaguya was Iroha's light
• The part where Kaguya is hugging kid Iroha and pulling her out of the closet represents Yachiyo comforting her during her childhood
• • which goes along with the shot that shows Iroha using Yachiyo's counseling function
• • • It is implied that Yachiyo's support is what encouraged Iroha to leave her mother and move to Tokyo
• There is a shot where Yachiyo kisses Fushi. Viewers have noted that Fushi's ears and tail are blue colored in that scene, which is not the normal coloring. Instead they remind of Iroha's ears and tail in her VR form during the concerts where they also glowed blue. Fans see this as an indirect way for the studio to show a kiss between Iroha and Yachiyo. There is really no reason to show Yachiyo kissing Fushi otherwise

Ex-Otogibanashi trivia:

• This song is wholly original and in context of the movie it was written by Yachiyo herself. The song is basically explaining the plot of the movie and directed at Iroha, asking her to recognize who Yachiyo truly is. Hidden in plain sight
• The Kaguya parts of the song are about how Kaguya feels about her past on the moon and current situation of wanting to defy her fate, while Yachiyo's parts are reminiscing about her 8000 year journey and how she always remembered this moment with Iroha
• Due to Hayami's incredibly emotional performance, the animation staff added the detail of Yachiyo crying during the song, while the other two are just sweating
• The second verse in the full version is an emotional breakdown of how Kaguya suffered during her 8000 years, repeating conversations with Iroha inside her head endlessly, imagining how she would react to everything, until Kaguya was driven nearly mad. She even says she wanted to die
• • There are lines about how she "wrote down" these imaginary conversations in her mind, which leads into Remember's line about putting away the dusty old notebook for good

Remember trivia:

• The song's BPM is 168, which in Japanese is spelled I(chi) Ro(ku) Ha(chi) = Iroha
• When the line about "putting away the dusty notebook" comes up it's a reference to the endless imaginary conversations Kaguya worte down in her head to keep herself sane in her 8000 year journey, which gets referenced in Ex-Otogibanashi. Yachiyo has finally returned to Iroha, so she no longer needs those imaginary conversations as a lifeline
• Remember has the same melody as Reply. Yachiyo wrote Remember as her debut song in memory of Reply, the song that connects her to Iroha. In turn Remember is explicitely the song that saved Iroha's life, as it gave her the will to live when she felt like she wanted to die
• The Remember music video shows Yachiyo constantly surrounding real world Iroha without ever truly being able to reach her

Reply trivia:

• Reply is split into two parts. The first half's lyrics are written by Kaguya, while the second half was written by Iroha. Thus Iroha's part is a reply to Kaguya's
• Kaguya's parts are about how she cherishes the moments she had with Iroha and will always keep them in her heart when she has to inevitably part
• Iroha's half is about how she acknowledges Kaguya's feelings, but wants to have more time with her, to keep being together. She will make all of Kasguya's feelings come true
• In the MV the parts where they sing "Surrounded by all the things I love", Kaguya's version shows all of her varied interests, but puts a heart next to Iroha who takes up the most space. In Iroha's part the same line is sung while there is a cascade of images of Kaguya. The thing Iroha loves is all of Kaguya
• During the line "Tell me your true feelings, I will make them all come true", it shows the scene where Kaguya told Iroha "I love you" as she cried. Iroha is saying she will make Kaguya's love come true
• in the MV, the lyrics have two different fonts. The pixelated represents Kaguya, while the movie font represents Iroha. Toward the end there is a back and forth with both Kaguya's and Iroha's fonts. They are replying to each other as they are reunited
• • The full version of this song can only be sung by Kaguya after she returns from the moon, so the very song itself is proof that they are fated to reunite

• The guidebook's profile for Roka reveals that she has "special feelings" for Iroha, but was not able to get close to her despite realizing she was suffering behind a tough front. This is universally accepted as Roka having a romantic crush on Iroha, which she never confesses to her
• According to the voice actresses of Kaguya and Iroha, the director told them to put special care in the scene where Iroha gargles after brushing her teeth. Kaguya seeing Iroha so sure of her path in life made her think she is a beautiful being and where she fell in love with her
• Fushi's entry reveals that the reason it acts so standoffish and tsundere is that it would cry nonstop otherwise when interacting with Iroha and young Kaguya
