The Blossoming

In order to achieve their Goddess's goal of a plant-only world, Rosebutas were gifted knowledge on how to convert animal matter to plant matter. This process is capable of turning any creature into a plant version of itself, though the change itself isn't simple. Some steps listed are more ritualistic in nature and may not have a real effect on the conversion.

In order to prepare the subject for conversion, it must first be wrapped in vines and flowers. All clothing and accessories will be removed for this, leaving only the nude body. Rosebutas keep a special species for this, the Rosa filipes, as they believe it is the best to "encourage" the change. The subject is covered from head to toe with flowers and vines in a delicately crafted weave around the body. Thorns are left on the plant, as causing bleeding is actually recommended. Bleeding allows the DNA of the subject to mingle with plant mucus easier later on. Once this is done, the subject is laid on a large, empty looking flowerbed. Consciousness is not a requirement for this process, but it is recommended as those who have gone through the process in an unconscious state have noted gaps or alterations in their memory.

The flowerbed in which the subject is laid in is is specially prepared for the Blossoming. Carefully nurtured under the soil is a particular species of carnivorous plant known only to Rosebutas. The plant, referred to as a coma pod by Rosebutas, stays nearly completely hidden underground for most of its life. The ground it hides under is shifted by the plant to give the appearance of a comfortable resting spot for an animal. Small trigger hairs peek out of the ground that send a signal to close the pod when bent. Once it detects something lying on it, the hunger pod will break through the soil it is under and cover the body in multiple thick, fleshy leaves. The appearance of the plant and its methods of conversion give it the name coma pod. On average a total of 6-8 leaves that will come up from the edges of the flowerbed and encompass the body in a near air tight seal. A white mucus will excrete around the edges of each leaf, hardening over time and solidifying the pod. The leaves will lose their fleshy appearance and become hard like stone. Before this stage, the subject may be able to break free if conscious. But after the leaves harden, the subject can no longer escape the coma pod.

As the subject inside struggles and moves around, the pod begins to slowly fill with plant mucus. The mucus will hold the body down and numb the nerves and muscle, preventing the subject from being able to respond. This is reported to be a situation not unlike sleep paralysis, though in this case the body is as awake as the mind. The mucus will fill the pod up to the top, which may result in the subject's nose and mouth being intruded by the mucus. This will not cause the subject to drown, but it will stimulate the sensation of doing so. Once the subject is immobile and touching the bottom of the plant, it will begin adhering the white mucus to the body and fusing it with the bottom of the plant.

The first pieces of the body to dissolve will be the softest articles. This means the eyes, hair, lips, and genitalia. Skin will be removed layer by layer, a slow but thorough process. After melting through the skin layer, sinew will be unraveled from the bone and muscle will be released to float and dissolve amidst the mucus. Eventually everything excluding the bone becomes part of the mucus floating in the pod. The bones will be used as the basis of the reconstruction. The pod, using materials from the body, will wrap thin appendages around the skeleton. These appendages will pierce into the soft and porous bones, sucking out the inside and filling it with plant tissue. This plant tissue will reform the structure of the bone, allowing it to be reused.

The appendages will, after wrapping around the skeleton until it is reminiscent of a cocoon, detach from the pod and tighten around the skeleton. The details are hazy, but here it reconstructs the body using the appendages as materials. It begins with the organs, then the muscle, then the skin. Using the absorbed DNA, it can perfectly match the appearance and mind of the subject at the point of dissolving. While it is debated whether or not the now-plant subject is the original or a replica, it is worth noting that those who have gone through the process while conscious can note a time period where they felt "gelatinous" and "free of form". After the body is reformed, it absorbs the mucus into itself and drains the pod. Now that the pod is drained, it will open and the subject is free to step out whenever ready. While the subject may feel woozy at the end of the process, it is only due to the plant taking a small amount of energy from the subject to sustain itself.

Noticeable changes include a vitalizing feeling when exposed to sunlight, an inability to breed with animals, the capability to breed with plants, a vastly improved immune system, green "blood", a distaste towards animals, sluggishness in the dark, and a larger appetite.

The Blossoming process takes two full days to complete.
