this is the gist of it:
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Sentinel_AU
i love the idea of spirit animals for the two of them, sonny getting caught up and swept away by his enhanced senses, fuuchan pulling him back. they get paired up (against their will at first) by whatever military institution they're a part of because they're both valuable resources but are too fucking stubborn to willingly bond with someone else. suits them so well. it's like a blend of ABO and pacific rim.
That's a lot, so they're kind of like a special needs kid and their TA, kek. I'm just kidding it sounds really cute and the idea that Fulgur this half metal cyborg soldier being the guide is so gap moe.
KEK that's one way of putting it. i like the idea of fuuchan getting yanked out of retirement to help this young prodigy who desperately needs a guide, they're both kind of distant and clinical about it in the beginning... but as they go on missions together they start to warm up to each other...
Oh that's so cute, at first they're reluctant to becoming closer but as time goes on Sonny becomes attracted to Fuuchan and will run to him for the smallest inconvenience. Maybe they're forced to sleep in the same bed for missions because I'm a sucker for cliche tropes.
YES or camping out in a car together, where it's cramped, and having to cuddle up because it's cold too. at some point something happens that triggers fuuchan's trauma related to how he lost his limbs and retired in the first place and sonny has to protect him instead and almost loses it in the process. maybe it's so bad the higher-ups consider decommissioning him for it... and that's when fuuchan decides to soulbond with sonny for real to prevent that from happening, because they can't kill both of them, fuuchan is too well-respected.
Fuufuu would definitely do that he's self self sacrificing like that, Sonny feels reluctant because at that point he really isn't that close with him yet. What does soul bonding do? Is it like in ABO?
it's more of a mental bond than physical like in ABO, from what i've seen, but it depends on the author. pretty sure it allows them to communicate telepathically with each other? but it doesn't necessarily give the sentinel complete authority over the guide unless you want to write it that way. the power imbalance is usually imposed by societal factors so it can lean either way. oh but not having a guide is a pending death sentence for the sentinel.
Oh man imagine the angst potential! They can telepathically communication right, so what if when they bond Sonny is still hesitant because they aren't close. And he gets like flashes of thoughts from Fuu that he misinterpreted. Like it's just fulgur's self consciousness and self hate but sonny thought that it was directed towards him, that fulgur hates him. So in turn Sonny treats him coldly and just like an accessory.
imagine the angsty sex and the eventual mutual pining. what would it take for them to finally realize it's all a misunderstanding. one of them almost dying?
