"Papa?" The ever scorching hand--so hot that he'd taken the boy to the doctor fearing fever when he'd first brought him home--pressed against his neck, startling him from where he'd hunched over his desk in the lamplight.

"Voxxy!" He straightened up in a hurry to glance first at the child who now stood rubbing his eyes sleepily, and then to the clock ticking away on the wall. It was late. Very late. "What are you doing still up?"

"Couldn't sleep" Mumbled the boy clad in an oversized t-shirt, likely stolen from his closet. "I want to sleep with you, papa." A pout of displeasure sat firmly on his lips.

Before he could even reply, the child was already clambering onto his lap, and without a thought he shifted in his seat to accommodate him, hand hovering at his back to catch him if he fell.

"What are you doing, papa?" Vox chirped as he settled in. Curious eyes glanced over the paper covered in scribbled numbers, lingering on the one on the bottom, circled in red.

"Nothing for you to worry about, kiddo." Fulgur hurried to reassure him. "How about we go to bed, huh?" He stood, picking up the child in one arm as he went, and letting him cling to his neck. With the other, he quickly shoved the paper into a drawer and flicked off the lamp.

In the near darkness, he headed to his room. Trying to drop the boy in his arms off in his room would only lead to more pouting, and he was far too tired to try to coax him to sleep separately. Setting the boy on the bed long enough to remove his pants and toss on a sleep shirt, he pulled back the covers and placed his glasses on the bedside table. His hair had already fallen free of the messy bun he'd been wearing while fretting at his desk. Vox latched onto him as soon as he lay down, cuddling up against his chest in an instant.

"Goodnight, Voxxy" He muttered to the child shaped heater currently attached to his chest. He kissed his head and closed his eyes.

Fulgur was exhausted, and fell asleep quickly. Too deep in slumber to notice when the child 'sleeping' on top of him ceased to breathe, no longer having an audience to pretend for. The inhuman eyes watching him sleep narrowed in thought as the demon visualized the paper he had glimpsed on that desk. It appeared more plans had to be made.

"Don't worry, papa~" A smirk, and a firm press of their lips together. "I'll take care of everything. All you have to do is stay with me."
