FAQ

Tags for the mods section

There are four major mod distinctions.

・Necessary
A mod that is generally considered essential to all modding of the game or is used as a base for a lot of them. Installing these is typically always recommended.

・Optional
These are all the mods you can pick and choose from for your personal experience. This should be the majority of all mods listed.

・Total Conversion
These mods are independent campaigns/modules/fan works that use the base game to create an entiely new thing. NOT used for expansions or additional content to the vanilla game.

・Unstable
These are mods that for various reasons cause mod conflicts or bugs for a lot of people or are outdated enough to have a high likelihood of breaking the game or mod chain. Install at your own risk.

Tags for the fan translations section

・Complete Translation
Any fan translation patch that fully translates the entire game's content.

・Partial Translation
A patch that translates only part of a game, like for example just the one yuri relevant route etc.

・Edited MTL
The bare minimum for a translation to be added to the list is that a human edited a machine translation to be coherent.

・Localisation Fixes
For any translation patch that corrects an existing translation, typically of official releases.

Where can I find the game folders?

Most of the mods listed here will have readme files or instructions for their installation. Modding can be cumbersome and generally requires you to mess with the game files, so figuring out how to reach the game's directory folder will be mostly a necessity. Here are some useful tips on different platforms.

・General
Some mods require you to open the temp/save folder which is not always in the Steam directory. Generally opening your Explorer and typing in the folder's name in the search bar will help you find whatever you need. If you are required to mess with the AppData folder, be aware that Windows hides this by default and you have to check the box for displaying hidden files in your Explorer.

・Steam
Go to the installed game in your Steam game library. Click on the "Manage" button (looks like a gear). Go to the "Manage" subcategory. Then click on "Browse Local Files". This will open the specific Steam game folder.

・Good Old Games
GOG lets you download the actual executable/install file, so you decide where to place the game folder yourself.

・Epic Game Store
Click on the three dots next to the title of an installed game in the library. Click on manage, go into the Installation row and choose "Open install Location".

Roms, ISOs, cracks and DLC ressources

Many older games are not easy to get anymore or discontinued their online shops so digital content is completely unavailable and some mods just outright require you to use roms and don't work on an original legit copy of a game. So you will need to download roms, cracked copies and even DLC files sometimes. Here is a list of sites where you can get some of them.

Emulators

First let's talk about RetroArch. It's a compilation software that contains emulators for all kinds of consoles. It loads cores (emulators) and can be used for almost anything. If you don't know where to find an emulator, chances are RetroArch includes one. However, it is not always reliable and it has its technical issues.

BizHawk, much like RetroArch is a software that loads cores of different console emulators, generally optimised for tool assisted speedruns. It shares the same strengths and issues with RetroArch.

Cemu is doing a pretty decent job at working with the graveyard console that is holding many good games hostage. Still being updated.

Nintendo Switch emulator:
by Yuzu. The team has been nuked as has their site, but their old builds still persist in places. Obviously there is no support anymore, so you will have to work with what is there.

Baldur's Gate 3

BG3 has its own internal mod storefront within the game (they are all free and fanmade of course). Functionality is high, so downloading mods there directly is viable. It is still best to get the BG3ModManager so you can install both internal and external mods. There are plenty of mods not available on the internal store and should online functionality ever end for some reason, it is best to have the backup.

Idol Manager

First a useful tip on how to make all your Idols lesbians by changing the files: Install the game, start a campaign, save after recruiting idols. Then go to your PC's folder under User/AppData/Local/Glitch Pitch/Idol Manager/data/story_mode/(Your save file name) and then you should see a .json file named "auto-save" (as well as whatever manual save you did in what chapter). Open it and either search for the name of the specific idol or put "sexuality" into your search bar. Each idol has parameters and sexuality is one of them. The variable looks like this ("sexuality": 2,) . 0 = straight, 1 = Bisexual and 2 = lesbian. So you should alter all your idols' sexuality to 2 and voila, an all lesbian idol group. You will have to do this again for every new idol you hire.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

Attention: The Steam version of Knights of the Old Republic 2 features 2 versions that you can switch between. By default the game will start with the Aspyr version, but most mods require you to play the game on the Legacy engine. So go to
Manage > Properties > Betas > Beta Participation > legacypc
and start the game only like that. Aspyr's only benefit is ultra wide screen support for the game, which can be achieved with patches or mods for the Legacy version anyway.

You can't even talk about modding Kotor2 without someone bringing up the Content Restoration patch (also called TSLRCM). It is like a brand new game. It is essential to getting a complete experience for the game I would argue. Obsidian finished the game in under a year and there is more content that was cut than what remained almost. Akai Ito & Aoi Shiro

Both Akai Ito and Aoi Shiro have received fan translations in the past, with Akai Ito's unfortunately never being fully completed. When the HD remasters of both games appeared on Steam players were quite shocked to realize that the official translation was of poor quality and actually worse than even the fan translations. Some anon took it on themselves to make the fan patches compatible with the HD remaster and fuse them together for the most optimal experience.

Fate/Extra & Fate/Extra CCC

This is a dual patcher by Iwakura Productions. The patcher includes both patches for Extra and CCC.
Extra - Localisation fixes, the ability to make Saber use "Maestro" instead of "Praetor" to refer to Hakuno and also subtitles for the battle sections which were not translated in the official release!! This patch only works on the USA version of the game. ・Localisation Fixes
CCC - A full English translation patch for the entire game. The patcher also gives the player the additional choice of translating a certain character's name as "Meltryllis" or "Meltlillith". Only works on the JP version (not like there is any other one). ・Complete Translation

Q: Can I play this on my PSP?
A: Yes, but only with the ISO and a cracked PSP. The physical release will not work for the patch.

Q: I don't have a PSP, is there a good emulator?
A: PPSSPP is the best emulator for PSP games and works perfectly fine with these games.

Q: Where can I get the ISO for the games?
A: Many places, PSP ISOs are some of the most easy to find. I recommend CDromance.

Q: Why is there a Patch for the original Fate/Extra included even though it has an official English release?
A: The Perfect Patch for Extra fixes some translation errors and adds subtitles for combat dialogue and menus.

Q: Do I need to play Fate/Extra to play CCC?
A: Yes. CCC is incomprehensible without Extra.

Q: Do I need to play Fate/Extella?
A: No, that is the sequel.

Q: Do I need to play/watch Fate/Stay Night or its spin-offs?
A: No, while characters, concepts and events from all Type-Moon works are referenced, most of them are cameos and the reoccuring characters are different to their original counterparts as this is an alternate universe. Fate/Extra is one of the best starting points into the franchise.
Players who are Type-Moon fans will get the best experience of course, but that is not a requirement.

Q: Do I need to do multiple playthroughs of Extra before playing CCC?
A: Extra & CCC are high on replay value and let you carry over NG+ runs that add new things to the playthrough and let you pick your next Servant. It is recommended to play Extra at least twice to get both female Servants and both heroine routes (mix and mash as you like).

Q: What are Flower Menu options in the patcher about?
A: They allow you to patch the games with a font that is more compatible with the PSP should you choose not to emulate and they also give you options on how one of the Servants calls the femC and how one of the enemies in CCC is named. These are options for hardcore fans who argue about this kind of thing.

Q: Is there maintext yuri in these games or is it just subtext?
A: Extra features a female protagonist option, two female Servants and two heroines with their own routes. The game explicitely includes a yuri sex scene with the female Servants (not on-screen) though not with the femC, but rather the heroine you pick. All relationships with Servants and heroines are portrayed as romantic, though not all equally explicit.
CCC is far more explicit with the romance than even Extra and adds more female allies/enemies who are romantically/sexually involved with femC. It is very harem-ish.

Q: Is the protagonist in these games just a blank self-insert?/Are there differences in content between genders?
A: More romance options for femC. The main character (official lore name Hakuno Kishinami) in Extra and CCC has her own personality. Though she is supposed to be a blank slate mostly, the author was famously bad at writing that way, so she ended up having her own personality and quirks. The game is inner monologue heavy and while you can choose some responses and make pivotal decisions, the personality stays the same overall.
Servants will act differently with different gendered Masters, but this is far more extensive in CCC.

Metal Max 2 Reloaded

This is an English fan translation patch by Metal Dreamers. It also includes an option for secret chest passwords that were only shared in JP gaming magazines. Metal Max 2 Reloaded already natively features yuri content, but now you can play it in English. ・Complete Translation
