It burns frigid white, the sensation of waterless ice.

Pink specks at the edges where the ghost of embers flicker.

The scarring it leaves behind is unmistakable, skin crackling into pitch black. Signs of the Deep Scripture made manifest, and a branding of those damned in the eyes of the administrative divine. The seed of darkness beneath the island, planted facing upward above the summit of the mountain, beckoning sight into the Heavenly Realm, with roots outstretched like a thousand arms across miles of land.

But the branded must be cast out, or else we risk the destruction of this land.

Love true and love all. But if this world and its laws do not accept my love, where shall my goddess go?

lucify (v) {colloquial}: to turn to evil

Lucification

An extremely rare phenomenon has been observed which is suspected of having links to overexposure to Mori-type chuubanite. Scoring appears on the flesh, accompanied by a searing pain, like the touch of ice or fire, or the feeling of Death itself. When the feeling subsides, the skin left behind has become pigmented black. Cases have appeared as mere scratches, or all the way up the forearm, or affecting the eyes and rendering them useless.

The condition is believed to be unrelated to the accumulation of calcified mass normally associated with prolonged chuubanite exposure characteristic of the morphology of the island's denizens. Records and research into lucification are kept under close watch of the scholar priests. Cases, rare as they are, are handled promptly by dispatches from the Purging Flame. Unscrupulous rumors abound about the origin and true nature of the condition, a reoccurring element in /morig/ folklore since the time of the Old Holo Empire. The branded are historically treated as outcasts and sayers of blasphemy.

There's a popular legend that gets whispered around candlelit rendezvouses in the dead of night within the temple dormitory, young girls competing at who can deliver the most chilling account of the young shrine maiden who cried about the end of the world, then went mad believing she grew horns.
