How to make a soundpost

Software needed

  • Any capture program. Or you can use your system built capture.
  • Shotcut

Steps

  1. Capture what you want to make a soundpost of with a capture program
    • Or be lazy like me and use Windows' integrated capture: Winkey + G > 'capture' button > in the new subbox press the 'start recording' button. Alternatively, just Winkey + Alt + R.
  2. Open Shotcut.
  3. Drag and drop the clip file/s.
  4. Trim to your preference. Activate the 'snap' button so it's easier to edit several cuts.
    • If the capture needs to be crop: select the clip in the timeline > go to 'filters' > press 'add a filter' button > 'crop: source'. Remember this applies only to the selected clip in the timeline. Cropping is inherited if you cut a clip afterward of applying it.
  5. Go to 'Export' > 'Audio' > 'MP3' or 'Ogg Vorbis' (your choice) > 'Export File.'
  6. Still in 'Export', go to 'Stock' > 'WebM'. After selecting it, press 'Advanced' > 'Audio' tab > 'Disable audio'.
    • If needed, because the clip is too long, you can lower the bitrate of the video on the 'Codec' tab > 'Bitrate'. This is only needed if the file is >3MB, as that is the limit 4chan allows to upload webms.
    • In the 'Video' tab you can change the resolution, which may be useful to lower the size of the file, or if the original source file is too big. Remember to use a correct pixel count for the aspect radio chosen, you can use this website for that: https://calculateaspectratio.com/
  7. Open catbox.moe (or pomf.cat if the first one isn't working) in your browser.
  8. Drag and drop the audio file and when it's uploaded, copy the URL.
  9. In the thread, press the 'Sounds' button that the 4chan sounds script added. Press the '∨' button > 'Tools' > 'Encode / Decode URL' > paste the upload URL of the sound file > Copy the modified URL.
  10. Go to the WebM file in your PC and rename it adding this at the end: [sound=$], pasting the modified URL of the sound file replacing the '$' symbol.
  11. Post it like a normal file in the thread.

Love, Gramps.
