Act I.
A princess was born to a king and queen who had been unable to conceive a child. The king held a feast to celebrate the birth and invited all the witchs of the land.
There were thirteen Witchs in the kingdom, but due to a mistake, only twelve were invited. The Thirteenth Witch, who was the only one not invited, showed up at the banquet in anger and cursed the princess, saying, “When she turns fifteen, she will be impaled by the spindle of a spinning wheel and never wake again,” and left.
More than ten years had passed since then. The princess grew up to be a caring and graceful woman, receiving abundant love from her parents.
One day.
The princess decided to go up the old stairs of the castle. When she reached the attic, she found an old woman she had never seen before spinning yarn by hand. Apparently, she was spinning yarn for knitting.
“Why are you spinning yarn in a place like this?” the princess asked the old woman without suspicion.
The old woman replied tiredly, “Those who are slow are made to work here.”
“Oh goodness. Is there anything I can do to help?”
“I'm not making much progress by hand, so could you please find me a spinning wheel?”
In fact, the old woman was the Thirteenth Witch.
Act II.
“I'm sorry. My father burned all the spinning wheels in the country.”
The old woman looked disappointed when the princess told her that.
“Don't get discouraged. I'll help you.”
The princess walked up to the old woman, not suspecting that her opponent was aiming for her life. That’s right. She was a sincere girl through and through. She took care of the old woman's body, and she looked for ways she could help out in her own way...…
She was a girl who instinctively did such things.
The old woman, touched by the princess’ kindness, opened her heart little by little.
And before she knew it-
“That’s right, Obaa-sama. Please teach me how to spin. If we do it together, I'm sure you'll be able to finish it in no time.”
The old woman and the princess stood shoulder to shoulder and began spinning together.
On the other hand.
There was someone who envied the princess, who had grown up to be beautiful. It was the Twelfth Witch, who was said to be the most beautiful in the country. The Twelfth Witch was anxiously waiting for the princess die from the spindle of the spinning wheel.
From then, the seasons passed one by one.
The old woman had feelings close to love for the princess. The princess also became quite attached to the old woman, and the two spent a lot of time together, becoming like a real grandmother and granddaughter.
Act III.
One day.
The Twelfth Witch discovered the relationship between the princess and the Thirteenth Witch. The princess must not be allowed to survive due to the Thirteenth Witch being influenced by emotion and changing her mind. Thinking so, the Twelfth Witch decided to head to the castle the next night to kill the princess with her own hands.
The Thirteenth Witch fought for the princess and managed to defeat the Twelfth Witch.
But there would be no next time.
She knew that her old strength would not be enough to defeat the Twelfth Witch.
“I want the princess to live somehow......”
The old woman hoped so.
Months passed by, and the princess finally turned fifteen years old.
It was a sunny day.
The princess was walking around town when she happened to find a spinning wheel.
She thought, “If I bring this to Obaa-sama, I am sure she will be happy.”
With her heart filled with anticipation, she took the spinning wheel back to the attic. But what awaited her there was not the old woman, but the Twelfth Witch.
Act IV.
The old woman found evidence that someone had broken into the house and rushed to the attic.
But the princess was already limp and covered in blood.
The old woman apologised for not being able to protect the princess and confessed that she loved her from the bottom of her heart.
And just as the princess was about to draw her last breath, the old woman stuck a spindle in the princess’ finger and cast a curse on her.
The princess survived and entered into eternal sleep.
Thorns suddenly grew thick around the castle, making it impossible for anyone to enter or leave, but the old woman never left the princess’ side.
A hundred years have passed since then.
A prince came to a castle surrounded by thorns. There, there was a princess who was still sleeping, and a skeleton that was leaning against her as it decayed. And the prince fell in love at first sight. The sight of the princess sleeping was so beautiful.
