Gaming Laptops of Macbooks?
Razer makes some of the most aesthetically pleasing aluminum unibody laptops with some of the best trackpads on windows devices.
Here are some issues that the LTT team experienced with their laptops (they have an older model. However, the new models aren’t that much better):
Previously known to have some of the most issue-plagued units on the market, Razer has surprisingly improved the quality of their units in 2019 and have become units worth using if you get a good one. Unfortunately, there are still some caveats.
Firstly, they are overpriced unless found on a good sale.
Secondly, while the units have been highly improved design-wise, Razer still has bad quality control, and you want a store that will allow easy returns for new models in case of any QC issues.
For this, we recommend the Microsoft Store with their PerformanceGuard warranty, or Amazon's third party warranty (please beware reports of Amazon banning returns after four or five. instances, regardless of whether or not you are justified in your return reasons).
Make sure you NEVER buy directly from Razer.
And finally, Razer Synapse, a software known to be annoying at best and problematic at worst for enthusiasts and power users alike, is required for control of things like the laptop fans or keyboard backlights.
If you are fine with this and perhaps the exorbitant pricing and you end up with a problem-free unit in your hands, the cooling is sufficient and performance is good. Good luck!
Razer laptops have bad quality control. Meaning they leave the manufacturing line with defects in them. As such, you may get a unit that is completely fine, or you may get a unit that dies within a month of use, which happens a lot more than you think for razer products. Problems include ports stopping to work, machine not turning on, sudden increase in temperatures at idle, etc. If you do get a unit that works, there is also a high chance that your unit has very bad heat dissipation. The heatsink lottery on Razer laptops are also abnormally high, with some people having to return their laptops 2-3 times to get a good, functioning unit. As such, razer laptops are generally not recommended, unless you really need the thinness, lightness, and battery life. Always get one from a 3rd party seller or from any place where you do not have to deal with razer customer support, as their customer support and general service is really, really bad.
