The ultimate first time checklist guide to help you getting started with your new laptop!

Follow this guide if you just got a new gaming laptop:

-Check box for obvious shipping damage
-Check laptop for dents and scratches
-Check packaging (confirm new model)
-Check power brick and cord damage
-Check for cracks, fractures or impact marks
-Open and close lid (check hinges)

If you don't want your Microsoft account connected to your laptop, don't connect to wifi during the windows setup process. Therefore you won't have to deal with unnecessary Microsoft services, you can download apps from the Microsoft app store without having to sign in and you can do the same thing with the office suite.
Note that this only works with Windows 10.
DO NOT install anything (other than what is specified) on your laptop until you've finished with the "updated" system image

-Verify actual specs are what you bought (check the model number)
-Check all keys multiple hits (enter key)
-Check for dead pixels (black and white screen tests)
-Check all ports working (check snugness and fit, test that they work once you've turned on your laptop)
-Check profiles and fan speeds (noise)
-Check keyboard backlight across different profiles (dark room and well lit, if you have RGB test that too)
-Check for backlight bleed
-Check trackpad for motion and click feel
-Check different resolutions
-Check if the mic and webcam work (if you have a webcam/mic shutter switch, test if that works too)
-Check if the speakers work
-If your laptop has a mux switch, test if it works
-Take system image "out of the box"
-Remove bloatware (McAfee, etc.)
-Update laptop software (lenovo vantage/dragon center/armory crate, if available)
-Update bios (with laptop software, if available)
-Update video card driver
About bios and GPU driver updates, make sure to check whether to update or not with other users first just in case something important's changed or if there are known issues with it
-Connect to wifi and run Windows update
-Take an "updated" system image.
-Charge battery and confirm 100% as start point
-Review Discord/Reddit for any new issues experienced by new owners
-Confirm benchmarks measure up to other users of same model

(Cinebench for CPU, aida64+unigine heaven for a combined load stress test, 3Dmark timespy/firestrike for an overall benchmark, shadow of the tomb raider for a non-synthetic benchmark)

Note: There is almost always a Discord server dedicated to your model of laptop, and they're always good places to start in case you encounter any issues.

This is an older article from notebookcheck that brings up some important points for checking your new laptop that you can look at if you want.

Enjoy and have fun!
